side image sonar?
who has this type of new sonar? how do you like it?
Re: side image sonar?
I have a Humminbird 997c and let me put it this way. If you ever use one of these units you will never want to use traditional sonar ever again. The demos that run on the units in the store don't do them enough justice. Absolutely awesome.

Re: side image sonar?
They will mount like any other sonar unit. You do have to have the sideimaging transducer mounted on the transom though. It has to be in the water to work, it won't shoot thru the hull.
Re: side image sonar?
Does any one have both Lowrance and Humming Bird sonars in their boat...if so will the humming bird connect bia the lowrance network system (has a name that I can't remember)?
Thanks

Re: side image sonar?
Humminbirds will not connect to the Lowrancenet network. Humminbird does have their own network solution for waypoint sharing that is much easier to set up.
Re: side image sonar?
Thanks for the reply...
I know Hummingbird is a pretty big player in this market...are their units, from your experience, just as durable/reliable as the Lowrance units. My brother is in the market for one of the Side-Imaging units and I use his boat a lot....so I have a interest in making sure he gets something that is going to work/last.
Thanks,
Bryfmd

I have owned a 787c2 for almost 16 months and it has worked perfectly. I ran an Lowrance Lms-480 for several years and it worked well also, but I did have to replace the gps antenna after it died. Both companies offer the same 1 year warranty. If you would have asked me the same question before Johnson Outdoor aquired Humminbird I would have said go with Lowrance, but the tables have turned. Humminbird is driving their brands with innovation and new technology right now. I guess the other main reason for going to Humminbird, other than side imaging, is that they are 100% USA made. Lowrance is now owned by Navico from Norway and made in Mexico.
