I'm attempting to carve my first crankbait out of basswood. Any tips or tricks would be much appreciated.

If I wanted to know the basics of wood carving I would go to a "basics of wood carving" forum.

Best advice I can give is try to copy the profile of a lure you like and don't overdo the detail on your first ones. After you have a tested design that swims the way you want it to you can add bling. :)
