NFC MB765-1 X-Ray NEO

Post by ogrich31 » Wed Mar 18, 2020 7:00 pm

New X-Ray blank from NFC. Virtually unbreakable? Also, anyone know what "Zentron Fiber" is? At an intro $75 price, I might have to try one.. Thoughts?

Lol. Well I ordered one. Not sure when I'll get the chance to measure it though. I'm pretty behind on builds right now.

Hahaha. I was going to tell him to try charging his phone.

I saw the email and am intrigued as well. Seem to have specs I am looking for. It suggests a lot of moving bait techniques. I emailed a few questions about the blank...will share whenever I get the info.

Zentron fiber is fiberglass. It is a composite rod, hence the slower action and "unbreakable" claim.

Thanks, let us know what they say.

Thanks, that makes sense. I'll probably post weight, butt and tip diameters when I get it. Won't measure it for a while though.

As i know, those Zentron blended blanks what came earlier ( Delta series ) are quite impressive also. Its very light and durable. I have one rod, NFC MB 795 Delta and i love it.

On the website, there is a spot where it said this weights 2 oz. Can that be right?

So a composite blank, blended with a higher grade, possibly higher content of carbon fiber? Hopefully it is a blend throughout the blank, rather than a pure glass upper section.

If the blank is really 2oz, it might really be the one. We'll see though. There really isn't a blank this light with lure ratings up to 2oz. With that said, where the weight is placed is much more important than total weight. At least to me it is.

I have one now, just need to weigh it. This won’t be on my “soon to build” list though.

My scale is not at home though. Next time I leave home, I will grab it and weigh the blank.

That's not as light as I thought I'd be. They also updated the specs, saying that the blank weight is "~3oz."

How did you get yours so soon? I ordered as soon as the email came out, and it still hasn't shipped yet. I'm perfectly ok with the 3 or so months of waiting for blanks from NFC, but when they're introducing a new blank that they're calling "the one", I'd assume that they'd have a decent amount in stock.

I'm also very disappointed in the way they marketed the price of the blank. It's still at the $75 price when added to cart, and listed at $150. I was under the impression that the listed price would go up to $250, and they would be the same price as the other x-ray blanks.

From their first email: "Specially priced at $75 for the launch, it will go back up to X-Ray pricing."

All in all, I'll be happy if the blank is good, and I wouldn't mind even mind paying retail for it. But I'm just a little disappointed in how they marketed the price on it.

I would assume they will go up in price at some point. I jumped on it because of the price. I don’t need another rod to build, but it sounded interesting.

I ordered on 3/22 and got it 3/28.

I would like to see it run through tackletours testing to compare to the swim bait rods.
