Glue for butt caps

When production rods are not enough, it's time to go custom. Come share your experiences building and/or ordering a custom rod and tell us if you'll ever go back to off the shelf.

Glue for butt caps

Post by romans » Tue Feb 19, 2019 5:42 pm

I am no rod builder or have I ever built a rod. However, I have two fishing rods that need butt caps glued on. Is there something I can use that I could find local as opposed to ordering something from mudhole?

Any 2 part epoxy will work fine. Make sure to have 91% isopropyl alcohol on hand to clean up any excess. It wont hurt cork or EVA like other solvents will. Gorilla Glue makes a very good epoxy that I have used with excellent results.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Plenty of builders use straight up Devcon epoxy that can be found in any hardware store. No need for any specialized epoxy here. Plenty of other brands besides Devcon as well.
