X-ray SJ 732 spinning or baitcast

Post by dv1 » Sun Oct 21, 2018 6:33 pm

I picked up a few x-ray blanks to build. One of them, the SJ 732, is rated 6-10# line, 1/8-3/8 lures, x-fast. I was going to do this as a spinning rod, but am wondering if I should do a baitcaster instead. Normally I do spinning at this power level but wonder if with reels like a tatula sv if it is in the wheelhouse of casting equipment now.

Any thought?

Once you've decided the rods intended purpose, it doesn't matter. As long as you have a casting reel that will execute. Any Daiwa SV reel will handle the lighter stuff well, some better than others.

Finesse jigs and weightless plastics will be the use. I don’t want to fight backlashes or see a reduction in distance compared to spinning gear. I fish clear water and distance matters.
