Point Blank PB731MHXF

Post by 5bites » Sun Sep 09, 2018 3:49 pm

I received my blank Friday after taking advantage of the Jann’s 10% off for Labor Day. On the sticker it says mh extra fast but under it was a sticker saying fast instead. Seemed odd but no biggie. It’s close to extra fast which it what I wanted. The faster the better. The power though seems a fair amount less than I’d hoped. It’s probably a solid medium but I couldn’t call it a typical mh. The weight came in at 1.95oz. instead of the claimed 2.11oz which is fine but odd. My intention was big worm and dragging jigs and also some pitching. After handling it now I’m thinking underspin, light texas rig, and finesse jig. I’m actually considering cutting 2” off the butt and making it a finesse jig rod for pitching around docks. It definitely couldn’t be used for what the description says it’s for. It does feel like a lively sensitive blank. Nevertheless I’ll find something for it but I wish I had bought the heavy instead.

Exchange it. I can't imagine using a rod with over 600 grams of power for finesse duties. Something isn't right.

Welp, I took some measurements and sure enough it’s the wrong blank :/ The butt measures the same as a medium and the tip is actually a little smaller than a medium is supposed to measure. So I’m glad it’s not just a terribly rated blank but now I’m dreading dealing with getting the correct one. This one feels like a great blank for what it can actually handle power wise.

I don’t build that much but somehow this is the third time this has happened. I wish the gentleman from Point Blank still frequented this forum. Maybe I could talk to him personally and work something out.

One I ordered from a supplier the second came direct from them after I discovered the first was wrong. I was told it was “hand picked” well I got another dud from them, I built it and sold it for the reduced price they gave me. They “ supposedly built one for their pros to test” their resolution was to tell me it was only rated for 3/4 of an ounce not the 1.5 or 1.25 ounces that were published at the time. I had hoped for a 3/4 and 1 ounce wobble head rod but with the trailer I use the rd was completely overwhelmed. Left a pretty bad taste in my mouth!!!

Did you measure the dimensions of the blank?

If I can get one that feels like the one I received but with more power I’ll be plenty satisfied. The blank I have feels great and would be great for what it could handle. In other words if the actual mh blank feels as lively as this one I’ll be more than happy.

This is a PB issue. I believe all rod building companies have to order direct. Have you contacted Janns Netcraft? I think you would have better luck finding the PB guy on rodbuilding.org

I have been in contact with Anglers Resource. I’m waiting to hear back and hoping for the best.

That makes me angry. If their customer service is crap, I'll go back to Phenix, I don't care how good their blanks are. Hell, I won't go to the grocery store right across the street because their customer service is poop

When I first called them I was told they would look into it. After further discussion with Jim and John I was told I could purchase another blank with their friends and family deal.. I was out over a couple hundred bucks and still never got what I ordered. I honestly should have filed a dispute with my credit card company. I haven’t looked at them since.

This is disappointing to read. I recently built a 701MHF and it's OUTSTANDING.
