Sanded vs Unsanded K2's

Post by Mattman » Fri Jul 04, 2014 12:08 am

I just measured up my first sanded K2. (TX-765H-C) I have 2 sanded K2's of the same model already in my database and here are some comparative numbers...

Power
Unsanded #1 - 595 grams
Unsanded #2 - 557 grams
Sanded - 473 grams

Action
Unsanded #1 - 64°
Unsanded #2 - 63°
Sanded - 64°

Weight
Unsanded #1 - 1.935 ounces
Unsanded #2 - 1.975 ounces
Sanded - 1.9 ounces

It's kinda funny that the sanded weigh more and have a little more power then the unsanded. I wonder if they changed the blank materials.

Ugh. Thanks for catching my typo! I had my sanded and unsanded data switched.

All fixed now.

That drop in power is nuts. What they do, mislabel blanks again and send you a 764?

#1 looks like a nice blank (if you sand it) :)

pretty crazy to see the swing in power. chances are they changed something more than just sanding

I can try and take some but honestly, they look the same. I had to rub it to make sure the ridges weren't there.

64 is on the slower end of fast correct?? I am thinking about building an inshore rod out of one and wanted something light and strong but a little slower than say a loomis 3 power...

I'd put that kind of in the middle of "Fast".

When you hit the upper 60's you're into Ex-Fast.

When you hit the low 60's, you're into Mod-Fast.

Generally speaking, Loomis' Mag Bass models (back when they sold blanks) were in the mid to upper 60's.

17% drop in power for 2% drop in weight . . . agree with jimmyb

This is the only blank from the K2 series I haven't seen sanded yet. The 714 or the 684 for e.g. is more powerfull than the unsanded, the 683 the same, the 736 and 715 felt almost the same in power, I'm just getting the 765 to see that for myself as well. (P.S. the sanded ones I've got in 714, 684 and 683, are a bit heavier than the unsanded versions - the 736 and 715 are about the same weight as they were)

Thx Mattman for the input !

Have you fished with them yet to see if they have different sensitivity?
