Post by Weedsnager » Wed Nov 06, 2013 4:03 pm

I want to use fuji's Kr guides on a casting rod. on mudhole's website the ones I'm going to use are the BKBAG, I can't find on there website the proper double footed micro to use as my stripper, which one do I use?

Why don't you use a double foot 6 guide for the stripper? That's what i use on my micro rods.

You can get the BKWAG in a size 6 for the stripper.

Just an FYI, Fuji recommends a 10 as the stripper for a KR micro casting rods. I usually use an 8, but that's just me.

I'll second the 8 for the stripper, the 6will work but the 8 seems to work best for me with light line and baits 1/4 oz and under.

It depends on your build. I build minimum weight rods with spirals only so i use a 6 then all 4's. If you are building on top, i would follow Fuji's recommendation.

I build very few casting rods that are not light or ultralight spirals used to throw light jigs to schools of white bass where distance is very important. My best rods have a #8 stripper even though a #6 certainly works. The 8 gets me a smoother cast and slightly more distance. I mostly use 6 lb mono and 1/4 or 1/8 oz jigs , braid wont get the distance mono achieves with the rigs I throw.

What are you throwing that allows mono to get you a further cast? I cant remember ever saying or thinking that i could throw mono further than i could a decent braid!

I would think that sufix 832 in 10# or 6# would easily outcast any 6# mono!

Any 4 or 6 # mono. When my rigs are dialed in rig;ht on the edge of blowing up , where I am getting max distance the limp braid wraps around the spool and abruptly stops the cast. I have to add slightly more brake to cast without problems with the braid. I can throw a 1/4 oz panfish jig with light mono 20 ft farther than if I rig with braid. If distance is not required I use braid because it allows me to straighten the light wire hooks when hung up. This is especially helpful in the spring when the fish are in the river before going back to the lake after the spawning run. The reel I am using is a Revo LTX with a modified brake where I can use 6-8 magnets, depending how and where I am fishing.

From medium power up, I like a few doubles on mine. I usually go 8, 6, 5.5 in the double foot K guides then a 5 single and finish in 4.5 singles with the matching 4.5 tip. It gives a nice smooth transition and seems to cast really well. Plus, it stiffens up a blank where the doubles are, effectively making the blank behave as a faster action. Just a personal preference.

If you use more than one double, just turn the guide around backwards. This eliminates the chance of the line angle causing it to contact the guide's leg. Not the typical look, but then neither is a spiral-wrap. ;)
