Looking for a bfs rod.
Just purchased a Gekkabijin Air Tw PE Special and now I’m looking for a rod to pair with it. I would like to throw neko rigs, dropshot, small jighead swimbaits and the occasional small treble lures. Pretty much everything a dropshot spinning rod does but in casting form. I would like something nice in the $250 to $500 range to compliment the reel with a nice tip that loads but just enough power to pin the fish without having a super thick blank if that makes sense.

Forgot to mention I picked up a rays 28mm spool to drop in. Most likely will be using 10/15 braid to Fluoro leader or full 8lb Fluoro.

What length do you like using?

6’10 and above .. prefer something jdm
Re: Looking for a bfs rod.
I want to see where this goes... I have a 6'10"ML but was too scared of a true BFS reel because I was scared it wouldn't hold enough 5-8lb fluorocarbon. I run 8lb Sufix 832 on a 1016 BFS spool and it holds plenty when full. So far I have been surprised that my stock Alphas SV TW with 12lb Tatsu throws lighter lures. I plan on moving it to lighter line or up to a Medium rod and using a BFS reel if I thought it would hold enough.
This aside, are you hunting a UL, L, or ML? Some ML casting rods are fairly stiff still, just wondered the weights you are planning on using. For the lures you mentioned, once the weight gets to 1/8 or over, especially at the 3/16 range, it seems a normal reel and Medium rod will chunk fairly far.

Re: Looking for a bfs rod.
The weight class I’m looking for will be 1/16 to 3/16 at the max. It will be just for bass so it’s gotta have a slight backbone so the light to medium light category but a nice light blank that’s not too thick. A nice tip to load and flick baits out there. I have everything else just wanted something fun and light just as if it were a dropshot rod.
1/16 Ned’s, neko with 4-5 inch finesse worms, 3” senkos and small free rigs etc.

Have you considered the Megabass P5 Bait Finesse Special? I haven't fished this stick with my Gekka Bijin, but I really like it with my old school Aldebaran BFS and it makes a really nice drop shot stick.

Re: Looking for a bfs rod.
I was considering that one for sure, I was just concerned about the 1/4 starting weight rating. Does it load 1/8 oz pretty well in your opinion Cal?
Re: Looking for a bfs rod.
I don’t even know the weight of my typical drop shot offering but I do know the weight is very small… I think the Bait Finesse goes lower than 1/4 oz… will have to do some weighing to verify… I intend to write it up, but it’s in very early stages.
