These spools are both rated up to 18g, are they too wild to control throwing bigger baits or are they both not robust enough to cope with contantly dragging bigger baits in? Also, is there much more of a advantage to the non drilled spool over the drilled offering other than salwater protection?

I would treat them like you would treat a Pixy spool. L powered BFS, ML and M powered rod use. I would probably max out usage at 3/8 oz total weight for casting but go higher as a pitching spool. I would prefer one without holes for more strength.

Hard casting may eventually break the Chinese Air Brake ramps but that goes with the territory. These spools are fantastic performers by all accounts I have heard.

I would go with 20# braid and cast ned rigs with heads from 1/20 to 1/7 oz, #5 shadraps, weightless finesse worms and up to 1/4 oz finesse jigs. Turn you Tatula/Fuego CT into a Pixy Airy Red SV basically.

I really enjoy the Ray's and DIY spools, but I can't say I've tried big baits on them. You will probably have as good or better results with the stock spools which are actually quite nice. If you want to throw small baits on the cheap, a Ray's/DIY Tatula combination is very tough to beat. A used TD-Z or Alphas with a Chinese spool might be the only superior option. A GH100 type reel is another good option if you have a very tight budget.

I just got the "long cast" spool for the Steez and it's an adjustable fixed inductor spool and really solid build unlike the DIY spool for pixy i own.

Not the one for the Tatulas. It is basically a deep regular ray's spool. I wish they had this deep version for other reels. I like the way the regular Ray's cast heavier UL and finesse bass baits but the capacity just isn't there. The "long cast" solves this issue. The Long Cast for the non Tatulas is a totally different animal and is a Ray's take in the ZPI spools.
