JDM rod-which reel to buy?
I recently got a JDM spinning rod, a Pro Marine Salty Rugger Mebaru 76L, rated for 2-5 lb line. It's a great rod to use because it has that very sensitive, tiny diameter solid graphite tip of 15 inches that shows the lightest bite. I want to put a quality spinning reel on it that will balance it out. I fish 2 lb test for large Bluegill and Redear Sunfish. Someone recommended a Quantum Smoke size 15. Anyone have any recommendations?

What is your budget and does weight matter much to you? If weight does not matter much, then your budget can be lower.
I would suggest at least a size 1000 using Japanese sizes such as Daiwa or Shimano.

I would say if you use 2# I would go with a 500 size reel I will link 2 below. Both nice just in 2 different price ranges.

Re: JDM rod-which reel to buy?
That rod weighs 104g (3.67 oz) so for JDM is not a particularly light weighing rod.
You say that you want the combo to "balance" so depending on how the rods weight is distributed will have an influence on what weight reel will actually neutral balance the rod.
I would figure out first roughly what type of weight would be needed to get the balance point you desire and then a budget that you want to spend. Some rods balance well with the super small 500-1000 size reels and some rods are going to balance better with a little heavier 2000-2500 series.
Usually the higher end reels will come in at a lighter weight point than a cheaper reel by the same company.
Most every one ends up playing the size/ weight/ budget quality game to a degree.

For reference, a 1000 size Shimano NASCI (7.6 oz) is not heavy enough to balance my 7'6" Kuying SuperLite Ajing, which has a claimed weight of 95 g.

Update: I just put an 8.8 oz NASCI 2500 on the SuperLite and balance is much improved. Balance point is at the front of the spool.Knotty wrote:For reference, a 1000 size Shimano NASCI (7.6 oz) is not heavy enough to balance my 7'6" Kuying SuperLite Ajing, which has a claimed weight of 95 g.
