I usually use the alberto knot with the braid doubled when I wrap the mono or flouro leader.

Because of older age......fumbling fingers....good eyesight, but with age it gets harder to see small lines....I use either a 3 or 5 turn surgeons knot. I also use a Daiwa Figure Eight tool to tie this knot....saves me a lot of time and frustration. I have tested both these knots on my Bouz Drag Checker and the knots are as strong as line rating.

This. 7up 3dn. I can't comment on the surgeon's knot which may be better. For me, the doubled braid Alberto is easy to tie and strong enough that I haven't felt the need to try anything else. I like it much better than a double-uni, that much I can say.
This is the way.

Depends on the reel. For spinning I use an Alberto. For BFS an FG knot because its slimmer profile goes thru the guides easier and avoids birds nests with really light lures.

I always use the Alberto knot. Used the FG a couple times but it's a pain for me to tie easily. I can tie the Alberto in a fraction of the time and have had better luck with it. I have found that with light braid to fluoro/mono I have better luck tying a good knot when I wrap 8-10 up and 8-10 down, pulling tight with the standing ends, then pulling the tag ends tight. With heavier braid to fluoro/mono, I can get away with 5/6 up and down and still have a strong knot.

FG is a terrible knot for light line applications. For one, many of the "nano" braids are very slick and biting into light floro leader is difficult. But more importantly, a single-strand finger-trap style knot...requires a fair bit of tensioning to bite properly.

The last thing you want to do is pre-stress your 2lb leader to that extent, before even hitting the water.

The "half alberto" or Shin Fukae alberto variation is all the knot you need for light braid to leader connections. The leader is doubled up, only 6-8 wraps to cinch down and bite, and you don't have to pull on the knot nearly as hard to finish it properly.

Just my $0.02.

I'm not using line that light, but with 6lb Sufix Nanobraid or 8lb Sufix 832 both to 7lb and 5lb Sunline FC Sniper I do just fine with the Alberto knot most times. Not long ago I had issues tying in the cold though, lost 2 drop shot rigs casting due to poor knots. I gave up and just did a good ole double uni instead and fished the rest of the day fine, never retying. Caught plenty of fish, knot passed through guides fine, even pulled snags loose with no issues.

Which leads to two questions:

1. Anyone using 2 or 3 lbs fluoro/mono use the FG knot?

2. And can such FG know pass through size 3.0 guides just fine? We are talking tiny tiny guides, but they are still a lot larger than the FG know.

Thanks.
