Favorite UL Hardbait

How small is your rod and how light is your line? It's not about the size of your tackle, but how you work it. Come share your Ultralight and Bait Finesse System (BFS) fishing success here!

Favorite UL Hardbait

Post by Popfly » Fri Jan 18, 2019 9:16 am

So I know that most people here including myself use Jigs with soft plastics frequently due to their versatility & availability, but sometimes I just want to use a hard bait. My favorite UL hard baits are mainly sinking pencils and range from the lightest at 1.8g to heaviest at 6.0g. Size from 35mm to 50mm. Brands are Lucky Craft, Tict, Storm, Rapala, Yo Zuri, Duel, and Majorcraft. I like the pencils as they have various sink rates & I like to make them work rather than depending on a lip for action. Most of them will "Slalom & roll" slowly on a steady retrieve & with a twitch will randomly kick. Most of them also roll or wobble on the fall. If you have some small baits you like please post them as I am always looking for new ones. Image

Respectfully,

For rivers and creeks if I had to fish one UL bait forever it would be a 5cm jointed floating Rapala. I have one that has probably caught over 200 bass. For lakes a 1/16oz Roadrunner with a Charlie Brewer Slider grub gets bit by everything.

Wpeart,

Thanks for the reply, I will look those up. I agree on the Slider grup, that little kicker tail seems to just provoke strikes.

I used the eurotackle Z-viber a lot last year and found that it caught fish very well. Other than that I don't throw a lot of hardbaits and prefer jigs and plastics most of the time.

NorCoMike,

Thanks I will check it out, the 16th oz version looks like it might be a killer for open water Wipers/Yellow Bass.

Rebel Teeny Wee-Crawfish. Have caught loads of panfish, SMB, and even wild brook trout with this lure.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen, I am very familiar with JDM Bluewater plugs & tackle just got into this end of the spectrum last season while searching for travel rods. Here I go again...:)

I toss spoons in a ton of weights and shapes. Tried mini cranks but didn’t care how they ran on my spinning setup, may have to try again once I get my BFS setup.
