I am still liking the Exist a whole lot. It is till currently attached to my favorite UL rod the G. Loomis TSR801-2 GLX. Been putting the hurt on crappie and other panfish all summer throwing 1/16oz jigs with 2" plastic tails. The reel may have a new home though, either on the new St Croix Legend Panfish rod in 7'0 or if the rumors are true, a new Gary Loomis Edge rods ultra light he may be releasing this winter. Have to wait and see.

The Caldia LT is a very nice reel for the money! It is basically the same as the Tatula 1000 but with a shallow S spool and a slightly slower gear ratio. A very good ultra light reel for the money.

I thought the Caldia is more a 500 sized reel, but the new 1k daiwas are nice too. Thanks for sharing!

I spoke with Edge last week and they hope to have the line of trout rods out in 3 months..... I had better hold off on any new trout rods until then..

Let's hope so. I would be very keen for anything ultra or light in either 6'8", 6'10 or 7'0, 7'2. Just my personal preference in lengths though......

Where did you get this info?
From PLAT when I was inquiring about the Exist, also another video by a vendor in JP. Based on the information I went with the Stella for the X-Protect to use for wading.

Daiwa Exist FC series don't have Mag shield function for Line roller and Handle knob in order to become lighter .
Inside of the reel have Mag shield, of course.

Normal model (Not FC series) are all protected by Mag shield .

Best regards.

This is Tony in Chicago. I had been asking Northfork/Edge the same for the past few years, hopefully they'll come out with a few panfish/trout blanks. I think at the moment their engineering team is probably deeply involved with expanding out the series of the new X-Ray blank. All we can do is hope. :)

For a light action blank I had built of a few rods using the FW 702-2 IM blanks which handles up to a 3/16 lure weight. Perfectly matched with the 1000 series of Exist or Stella.

How would you compare the exits to the Stella? Is there a big difference in performance?

I can't say how they compare now. I stopped using Stella's back in 2007 When the Exist came out in 1003 size. Stella was great I just preferred the Exist as I am a die hard Daiwa fan...The Stella's are great from everything I heard...

That’s what I’m using I’m thinking about getting the 2000 size daiwa exist I like the design of the new ones and they seem to be a great reel

I have the last 4 model types all in 1000 or 1025 size. I have the original model from 2007 in 2004 and 2506 size too. Don't use them but they are awesome reels. I fish ultra light / Light tackle 95% of the time so most of my reels are 1000 size. My 5 bass spinning combos all have the shallow spool 2004 size and have never had a line issue. Just my .02 cents though...

Even Daiwa advertises the less than 1g weight savings by not having the MagSeal on the FC series of Exist reels. I’ve been eyeing the 1000FC though not sure not having the MAG sealed sides would be a deal breaker. I also keep looking at the BFS setups so torn on the direction I want to go.

Link to Daiwa Japan if you use Chrome it will translate the page to English as the English version doesn’t have all the info on it.

I have fished my two FC 1000S models hard since April. I will say that I prefer them over all the previous models with mag seal. They are more fluid and don't have that micro, slight rub feel I detect with the magseal models. Not saying my magseal models are bad, they are far from that. Just really like the new Exist very much. Kinda hoping for a new Luvias or Preso based on the new body style of the Exist in 2019. If you are looking to get an Exist and save some cash, Tackle Warehouse has a killer deal on the Exist 1025 right now......

Yeah, I saw that but I feel I’d want the redesigned new version. I’m guessing maybe the Luvias is going to be up for a rebuild as Digitaka has been running a time sale on them the last few days. I was looking at the Caldia also but the Exist keeps calling my name. Glad to hear some first hand reviews on this premium reel.

FYI. The Exist 1025 was going for $399 at one of the dealers a few months back - I think it was American Legacy. They are sold out now but was a remarkable deal. I got to handle one and it is a beautiful reel.
