Loomis SR6010-2 GL3

Post by JB in SC » Sat Feb 24, 2018 1:41 pm

I'm interested to know which guides are used on the GL3 version, my 6010 IMX has been my stream trout rod for almost 25 years. Mine has the tiny tip top with very small guides. I saw a GL3 some years ago but don't recall the guides being the same as the IMX version. I'd like a two piece version.

Thanks!

Mine still isn't here...will be here tomorrow if UPS isn't lying. But I don't know that I will know when I see them. The longer GL arrived yesterday with the recoil guides....I've never seen anything like those before.

UPS was lying. They kept the rod in Atlanta for an extra day just for fun.

Anyway, rod just arrived, and it's got some kind of single-foot guides...other than that, I don't know what they are.

The tip top is different. Other guides appear the same.

The GL3 is action is not as crisp feeling, more parabolic I think. It's difficult to fairly compare the two rods...a two piece rod versus a one piece built with different materials. I prefer the IMX one piece...search goes on.

Older lMX rods from the Gary Loomis era had Pac Bay match guides in them, the reason yours has the 4mm spinning guides and small tip top.. When Shimano bought them they went to all japanese parts for the guides and Fuji quit building match guides in the the early 90s I believe. Pacific Bay still makes match guides in stainless and titanium, with, or without ceramic rings. The Fuji KL-H KR guides are Fuji's reintroduction into the high frame, match height gudes.

I think I bought mine in 92 or 93. It has been incredibly durable for a graphite rod.
