Rod for calcutta conquest bfs?

How small is your rod and how light is your line? It's not about the size of your tackle, but how you work it. Come share your Ultralight and Bait Finesse System (BFS) fishing success here!

Rod for calcutta conquest bfs?

Post by 1nutinthewater » Sun Dec 10, 2017 7:29 am

Recently purchased the calcutta conquest BFS HG for trout fishing. I will be using it in the boat fishing lakes where the fish run 1-3 # and occasionally over 5#. It will be used to throw mostly 1/4 oz spinners and spoons.
Currently have it on a G Loomis E6X 842 but it is a little heavy for my intended use.
Looking for input on a good rod to pair with this reel.
Also since I can nearly spool it on a light cast anyone changed out the spool for a deeper version on this reel with success?

What # line are you using? Perhaps going to something smaller would help some.

I would be looking at a ML or Light rod. The Majorcraft Speedstlye rods would be a good option.

Since I have not yet fished it and have only been casting in the pasture I have on 6# trilene. I did just purchase a spool of 8# nanofil to test out as well.

I have my '16 Aldebaran BFS paired with a UL Belkey (1/32 - 1/4). Reel is spooled with #15 braid with a 3 feet yo zuri #8 leader.

Works so far!

Are there any good american made rods for this reel? Seems like all I am finding are JDM rods for this light use.

Daiko is no longer making rods. You would need to find a used or old stock one.

Custom rod from Batson/Rainshadow Immortal Walleye Spinning blank. 6'2" rated fast action, Light power 1/16 to 1/4 oz, 4 to10 lb line. The color of the blank almost matches the BFS reel perfectly. While it is rated as a fast action it seems a little more toward moderate. I have thrown 1/16 oz spinner baits with ease. I need to try an 1/16 oz jig head or bare weight but it is about 15 degrees here and I'm not in a hurry.

Anyone tried the Edge rods from Gary Loomis? I have a few friends that are telling me they are in a class by themselves and no longer use the Loomis rods.
I see they make a few finesse rods and are on sale at $230

Yes, it would be a search for a used one but it's hands down the best light BC rod I ever had the pleasure to fish with.

I have searched to jupiter and back with no luck finding one of these. Please let me know if you have any avenue of obtaining a used model as it does sound like a great rod.

I'm getting pretty old. Watch this space and maybe you could help my widow pry mine from my cold dead hands. :big grin:
