I've been busy getting some ul cranks together
I got into painting baits with my copic airbrush system. Because I wanted to make it as hard as it could possibly be(sarcasm), I decided to shoot UL sized baits.
The bottom left popper is a 1/8oz Sugoi mini splash, it is ultra rare. The others are a 1/8oz Pop X KO that I added Decoy and Cultiva hardware to.
A close up, the mouth cut outs on the Pop X KO's are functional.
These are 1/8oz 1.75" minnow baits. They came out really nice.
Another shot of them
These are my first attempts at a Rebel Crickhopper type bait. These will catch but my painting has gotten much more high tech since I started.

Beautiful!
Have you used poppers with single hooks replacing trebles enough to compare the initial hookup rates and the rates of fish hooked to fish landed?
Seems a great idea for UL baits because of the hook gap gained with the single hooks and the greater ease of unhooking small fish.

Re: I've been busy getting some ul cranks together
My experience with the single barbless vs treble on the ultralight baits has been a good one. While a may miss a few, I for sure feel I lose less fish after hookup on the single barbless.

Wow, that's some beautiful work there!
Re: I've been busy getting some ul cranks together
Maybe I'm looking at it wrong but why are some of the single hooks facing forward and others backwards?

Re: I've been busy getting some ul cranks together
No method to my madness except that the tail hook has to be point upward. I had asked Bill if it mattered. He got me "into" single hooks. We can't agree that there is much of a difference in which way the front hook faces. I assumed if the hook point was facing the tail, the bait might be more weedless but I also thought maybe a fish might not get hooked all that easily, I haven't really noticed any difference nor do I purposely pick a bait that has a hook facing either way or the other.

Oh, OK. Simply curious is all. I'm definitely concidering swapping my trebles for singles.
Great work BTW!

Re: I've been busy getting some ul cranks together
I have noticed they are so much easier to unhook from panfish and fish with small mouths.
Re: I've been busy getting some ul cranks together
Well done Craig. Now the decision ... do you fish them or admire them ?

I only admire my JDM rods and reels but they get fished. These baits will get fished and I'm sure a couple will find their way to you. I might be in the market for a couple of those small blade baits.
