Re: Five Footers
that shiner is a fat little football. would be good pike bait!
i mostly use my 5' rods for trout fishing with my daughter. they are more her size. the trout put up a good fight on those little rods. i still use my old Daiwa UL7's on them. so far, she hasn't destroyed them. sand is the enemy.
i tend to gravitate towards longer rods for distance....also i'm usually fishing from a kayak and need the extra length to get around the bow of the boat. once i made the switch to longer rods, i find it hard to go back.

Re: Five Footers
Daiwa Area Bum 56XXUL-S.... the most XUL rod I have held... a 8 inch trout feels good and anything over 12 inches feels like a wall hangers... will fish down to 8x with no problem. Use it often for stream trout and small bass.
It is paired with a older Vanquish 1000, which is a small 1000... it was a JDM model and look like a 500 almost...

Re: Five Footers
As I fish through my collection of five footers , I'll try and post a picture of each combo along with a catch , if I'm lucky enough to catch something that day .
I invite others to do the same . I'd like to see some of the outfits you guys are using , from the Shakespeare's to the JDM'S . Take a pic and post them up . Gillchaser

This is probably my favorite right now . A St Croix Triumph 5' Moderate action with a Shimano Symetre 500 spooled with 2# PLine . Shown here with a decent little shellcracker I caught this afternoon on a black Trout Magnet. Gillchaser

Re: Five Footers
A totally new combo . I picked up another 5' SC Triumph UL this morning , around noon my new reel and spool of Viscious 2# Hi-Vis line arrived . The reel is a Pflueger President 6920 . Put it all together and after lunch met a friend of mine at a pond another friend lives on .
First fish caught on the new outfit was a small crappie caught on a Trout Magnet . I was surprised by the small diameter of the Viscious line . It cast pretty decent on the new reel too.
Second fish was another shellcracker that tested the drag a couple of times for me . A couple of good runs . Finished off the day catching 4 various size gills . Kinda slow for such a nice weather day and it being so close to a full moon .
Got the new five footer slimed though . Gillchaser

Re: Five Footers
I used to mess around all of the time with my 5' Berkley Cherrywood, 2lb mono, and 3" Senkos wacky rigged for pond bass. It's such a hoot hooking into 1-3lb largemouth, and letting them run around on such a light combo. Even river fishing for smallmouth is a blast with that combo.
Re: Five Footers
My 700 on a 6' 8" Fenwick Elite Tech River Runner. The 700 has a short reel foot that won't span the Fenwick's unique handle, so a bit of "redneck tech" was in order, thus the nod to the Tennessee handle. My favorite combo, it's caught me countless fish of all types.

Re: Five Footers
Love my SR 6010. Not ideal in some situations, but it is a super fun rod that I can't imagine replacing

Dang Chris, that is weakening my resolve. I have the same reel, how does it balance on that rod? And does the reel seat secure it well?
