What's your favorite small jerkbait

Post by timsford » Tue Jan 17, 2017 3:51 pm

Jerkbaits are my favorite baits to fish, especially if I'm targeting multiple species on a single trip. My favorite ul or small jerkbaits are the old version of the yo zuri pins minnow. There were two sizes that I used to own. The smallest was 2" and very lightweight( maybe 1/16oz) and the bigger was almost 3". I've been searching for years and buying the old style pins minnows, especially the small ones. Well, some stuff happened and long story short I had to sell most of mine not long ago. I'm going to restart my collection and search again, but I'm also curious if anyone else has any other favorite jerkbaits in the same size range that suspend or float that they would recommend?

they still make the small pin's. they also make the 2 3/4" in sinking....but i haven't seen the suspending pin's in a while. i still have a few yo zuri pin's suspenders and they are my favorites from the series. the 2" sinking was a great trout bait for me, too.

lucky craft makes some tiny pointers which suspend....just a bit pricey for what they are.

rapala has an UL minnow which is a sinker but casts well for its size. i've had the tail hook ripped out of the UL shad on a few baits...not sure if the hook hanger on the UL minnow is any better. just fyi.

lunkerhunt mosquito and the duo realis rozante 63sp are 2 more to add to your list.

Pointer 65s. They catch big fish too.

My favorites are Rapala F-3's , I sometimes go with the F-5 . I mostly cast ,twitch , slow retrieve. Awesome bait for big bluegills , if I can keep the LM's away .
I like small Husky Jerks in the small size , for when I'm a actually fishing for the LM's . Gillchaser

Don't know about an absolute favorite...I have been enjoying the megabass X55 series. The new ones are labeled under great hunting x55

Tons of Jdm options if you'd want to venture that direction.

Mines would be rapala x-rap xr6. Only negative thing about it is that it's a pickerel magnet lol other than that its an awesome little lure.

Do you have a couple favorites among the JDM options?

Not really. Just browsing various jdm retailers and manufacturers. Enough to make your head spin and drain the bank account real quick.

Dynamic Lures HD Trout. Kind of a "sleeper" bait ... doesn't get the notoriety of other baits, but is a solid performer. 2.25", 1/10 oz.

I picked up a few Megabass X55's or Trick 55's. They are UL baits and have some really spiffy finishes. I've caught some really night bass on them as well. I am also partial to the old #5 Rapala if you consider that a jerkbait.
