What rod you were using? That is quite impressing.

Is it? I don't have a baseline to compare which is why I am posting here. For some reason, I thought others were casting 90 feet using the same jigs - perhaps not.

As to the rod, unfortunately, the rod is not a commercial rod. The rod is one of my own build on my own blank that was specifically made for me.

ps: Addendum. I realized that my post above caused confusion. The above is with a UL spinning outfit. I was asking to compare with BFS as there are some who say BFS may outcast spinning outfits for distance. This is not a challenge, but a fact finding post on my part. Thanks.

I apologize for causing any confusion. Just realized that I was going back to the previous page in discussion about how far BFS can cast vs my spinning set up as casting distance is paramount for me in wide open waters. But I realize that you are probably thinking BFS since this is a BFS thread. So I was measuring distance using my UL spinning outfit with a custom designed rod, Daiwa 1003 spinning reel, and 2 lbs fluoro or mono. (I will try 3 lbs nanofil soon to compare the distance.)

You mean the troutmagnet jig head with a flash J? Or both troutmagnet and separately the Flash J?

Never seen the Flash J before.

With Troutmagnet, they actually weigh substantially more than 1/64th oz if I remember correctly. I remember being surprised at how far they cast and then finding out that they are closer to 1/32nd oz than 1/64th.

Yes, I mean the jig head with a flash j. Here's a pic from yesterday where you can see the lure a bit. Correct, a 64th TM head weighs .6 grams while a 32nd trout magnet head weighs .8 grams for a true 32nd.

Great read only makes me more wanting a BFS setup to try out... Good, bad or ugly guess I need to do more research.

It's tons on fun and functional as well. There are some tradeoffs but, I am much more in favor of BFS

Just found out that St. Croix makes an affordable option for semi-BFS fishing... Might try one because I like one piece rods and it is a lot easier to return USDM merchandise for me...
