The Magicals are works of art...hard to believe they are that light in weight!
The Majorcraft Fine tail line also has quite a few rod types besides travel, the 2pc rods seem to go for about the same as a St Croix Avid.
EB has the FT FTT-504L at a reasonable price given it's shipping from Japan.

I have a couple Valley Hill Buzztriks RB Packer's, pretty nice rods and good value for money, not the easiest to come by but might be worth your while checking them out.

Nice concept...pricey though.
Is it a bit of a compromise at the UL and ML extremes, or is it essentially a different rod with each tip section??

Re: Travel/pack rod options?
I did notice the butt length. Might be an easy adjust if the seat is fixed with hot glue...not so much if they used epoxy to attach it; though I guess even then the butt could be shortened some.

Re: Travel/pack rod options?
Maybe you can contact the manufacturer and find out which type of adhesive they use.
A custom rod shop probably could redo it even if it was epoxied. However, the old reel seat would have to be cut off most likely...and a new seat purchased.
A butt chop and just replacing the end cap would be much easier and cheaper.
I wonder if moving the rod seat location would effect the rod's characteristics though??

This discussion has brought up greater casting distance as a desirable feature.

However, I consider myself a futurist of sorts and we are solidly in the 21st Century!!
I wonder if this could be adapted with a release mechanism??

Shortening the butt is within the realm of possibility. Whether or not you actually WANT to do it is an entirely different discussion
This thread chronicles the repair of a damaged rod. The technique could very well be applied to your situation.

In a nutshell, the damaged section of the rod blank was cut out, a length of rod material of appropriate diameter (from a broken "donor" rod) to fit the inner diameter of the original blank was fitted (an "inner sleeve" so to speak), then a section of blank the same diameter as the previously removed damaged section was installed. The final results looked very impressive. The one downside I could see is the butt would be a tad heavier and may cause a balance issue.
