Re: $60 rods
New style or older model?
Though either way about the only other options are BPS or Cabela's store brands.
The cheaper Spinmatic C rods get favorable reviews, but the general quality doesn't seem as good as my older style Procyons.

Re: $60 rods
It's an older model with the fuji guides.
Re: $60 rods
I went ahead and bit the bullet. It should be on the way tomorrow.
After putting my president on my old ugly stick light and missing a few fish today, I'll appreciate any bit of quality. The one Mayan cichlid I managed to pull in still didn't change how I feel a out that uglys noodle like quality.
I searched around a bit and the only other options in a 6' 2 piece rod were daiwa cheaper offerings which I almost got just because. Kinda glad the older procyon is still available on fleabay. The seller has a few in lengths from 6'-7'. Even with their ridiculous $20 shipping, I paid just a bit over $50 for it.

Re: $60 rods
I know exactly who you got it from...that shipping rate is silly.
You might want to inquire if they made an error in the listing and the cost stated is for a one piece rod...can't hurt to try.

Re: $60 rods
Until I started using longer ultralights, my favorite rod was my Falcon Original 5ft ultralight. I still really like fishing with it for tight quarters ultralight fishing. I think they retail for $60.
Hope you enjoy the rod you chose. I'm jealous of the fact that you have things like Mayan cichlids in your local waters.

Good call Smead. They should now be changing their shipping on the 2 pieces to $10. Got my refund also.

A good deal went to a very good one.
Re: $60 rods
I would say so! Got it today and so far I'm pretty impressed for what turned out to be a $40 rod. I may have to pick up another just because they're so cheap with fuji components. I'll try to give a report soon.

Re: $60 rods
Definite upgrade over the Spinmatic with the Fuji hardware and IM7 material instead of just "graphite".
Bummer is that this particular model was discontinued...I got a second rod just for that reason.

Re: $60 rods
Best $40 I've spent in a while.
It's surprisingly sensitive, responsive and recovers quickly. Over all quality is nice including the cork grips which I was worried about on a rod this cheap. I've held over cheap rods with cork grips that felt spongey but these feel good. Balanced very well with a size 25 president. I'm not sure you would get a lot of distance casting a total weight of 1/32oz as it does have a fast action but it was a joy to fish with 1/16oz heads with the lake fork baby shads.
I will buy another one probably in the 7' flavor.

I like mine too...a shame they were discontinued. Well, at least you can get them at a good discount.
Re: $60 rods
Another rod to consider is the Daiwa Laguna for a whopping msrp of $39.99. I paired it with my 1000 fuego and it felt like a perfect fit. 7' UL with 1000 fuego running 2lb for 1/32oz jigs or 4lb for tiny cranks

Re: $60 rods
My favorite fishing rod that I own, besides a St. Croix and a gloomis is a 5 foot Berkly strike ultra light. I still use it even though it's probably 25 years old and have caught plenty of big fish on it.

I like my 6'6" presso. Looks nice, and handles pretty well. Its got a fast taper, so its not a noodle.
