A NJ Smallie caught on UL tackle

How small is your rod and how light is your line? It's not about the size of your tackle, but how you work it. Come share your Ultralight and Bait Finesse System (BFS) fishing success here!

A NJ Smallie caught on UL tackle

Post by Ranger 619VS » Sun Dec 11, 2011 12:21 pm

Hey guy's

The smallmouth Bass in the photo hit a 2" Berkley powerbait ripple shad in firetiger color. Rigged on a 1/16oz jighead. Fished on a G. Loomis TSR 862-2 rod matched to a Daiwa Exist 1003H native custom. 4lb Fireline crystal and a leader of 6lb fluro. Fish weighed 3lbs. Also included a very large pickerel caught the same day. Water temp was 42'F and air was 38'F. Caught heaps of Yellow Perch. A few pickerel and a bluegill. This is very late in the year for me to still be fishing open water so I am thrilled. A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.

Very nice! Those are some beautiful fish. I need to get out on the water sometime within the next week. My rods have been spending way too much time on the rack lately.

That is the most handsomely colored pickerel I have ever seen. On that gray carpet, it seems to glow with its own light!

Those who tough out the weather this time of year can get rewarded; I'm glad you did!

Nice fish, I always look forward to seeing what you've caught and what you've caught them on. Your tackle addiction is about as bad as mine. My "go to" rod at the moment is a Dobyns DX701SF w/ Stradic 1000, not too many $500 crappie rigs being fished :big grin:
