Re: Dream UL combo
I just bought my first Stella, a Jdm 2000,and put it on a 9' 5wt that I just built as a spinning rod . I'll use it to white bass fish, as soon as the river clears up. I can't wait.

Re: Dream UL combo
I sorta have mine already....Daiwa JDM Exist native custom 1003H on a G Loomis TSR801-2....However I would too love an itocraft rod in either 6'6" or 6'8".........Or maybe a GLX TSR791 wrapped with fugi ti/sic instead of the hideous recoils!!

Re: Dream UL combo
A spinning rod built around a Sage 000 might be interesting. No idea how the action on something that light would be though.
Re: Dream UL combo
I hope to have it soon. One of the last custom made G. Loomis SJ6400 extended 2 inches with a 6 inch rear grip, no fore grip and titanium SIC guides. I will be pairing this rod with a Shimano CI4 1000. It should be shipped next week. I understand that G. Loomis use to make a 6 foot version of the SJ6400, that would have been a great rod. I currently own two Loomis Trout Series rods (5'9" TSR 691S, and 6'7" TSR 792S) but I wish that they would make a 6'2" TSR 741-2 fast action Ultra Light. That would be the perfect small river rod for small minnow baits like the No. 5 Rapala, A.C. Shinner 250 or the Lucky Craft Pointer 48.

Re: Dream UL combo
I'm almost there right now I have a stella 1000fe on a TSR 791 and 792 I love them to death. I've been dying to get my hands on Nories Stream 510 or 63 though. I just wish the Stella look fit that rod better as I prefer my it over the Hyper Exist Native Custom.
What I'd really like to see though is Loomis bring out a NRX trout series rod. After talking with a few of their engineers at a show recently it looks like we won't see those any time soon

Have you fished the fly version? I own the 000 TXL and it's fun! The line is like dental floss. I would imagine a blank like that would max out at 1/32, 1/16 at best. Would be a hoot though!cst wrote:A spinning rod built around a Sage 000 might be interesting. No idea how the action on something that light would be though.

No I haven't even seen one in person. But the heaviest bait I fish for trout is a 1/32 minijig.flywatersmallie wrote:Have you fished the fly version? I own the 000 TXL and it's fun! I think it would look nice wrapped to match my Presso.
Re: Dream UL combo
1/16 tops? Wow sounds like I really need to pursue making a rod from this blank. If I did I would make it to match a Cardiff 1000s . \flywatersmallie wrote:Have you fished the fly version? It's 7'10" and the blank alone costs over $300.
They're also available in a slightly heavier 00wt and 0wt.

I like my Loomis TSR681-2 with a Shimano Ci4 1000. Good all round combo..

Re: Dream UL combo
How about a Stella 500fe on a 7'2" phenix iron feather!
Re: Dream UL combo
My UL experience goes back to the sixties when I picked up my first Garcia Mitchell 308 reel.
I still have that 308, plus another one. For rods I have a Garcia blue rod and a beautiful 2121D 5' Gold Rod.
In the mid seventies I discovered the Daiwa SS-1 reel and it is used on a Fenwick F555 5'-6" rod.
The great thing about UL is you can use the latest & greatest technical "Whiz-Bang" reel or go retro and use any reel from way back. Fish have no idea what is on the other end of the bait.
I'm presently thinking about getting back into UL fishing and am considering which reel to buy. There are a lot more on the market now than when I started. I like the Pflueger President but am reading everything I can find on other reels.

I still have 2 President Xt reels on old rods. A 25 and a 30 they are awesome cheap reels. IMO nothing competes in that price range.Danwin22 wrote:My UL experience goes back to the sixties when I picked up my first Garcia Mitchell 308 reel.
