Pancakeface22,

Glad my ramblings help you decide on a TSR. I have 5 models now and I still reach for them before all my other rods. My regular partner has a TSR790-1 matched to a Certate 1003 from Japan and the rod is awesome. Very modrate....Loads up very well. Awesome UL rod. I think it would be a great 2lb rod. I don't have any of the one piece models yet but the TSR790-1 is on my radar.

there is a sale on at a local tackle store near me this weekend, basically, I will save the tax on a stradic FI or sustain FE.

plus, I have a $20 gift certificate there, so one way or the other, I will be getting a reel this weekend.

when I called them last week, they were out of Sustain 1000's but should get more in by this weekend.

if not, I will probably get the stradic FI.

stay tuned!

Hey Guy's ,

Here are a few recent ul captures using my favorite TSR801-1/Exist native custom combo. Monday was yellow perch day. The weather warmed again and the Perch were spawning up against bulkheads in this one cove. Caught almost Fish a cast for a good part of the day. Caught a few crappie that i think were up eating the eggs or baitfish that were drawn to the spawn. The crappie in the photo was 13" long and was between 1.75lb and 2.0lbs on my boga grip. Rained yesterday so went to Cabela's in Hamburg PA. Bought a lucky craft humpback 50 jerkbait, a yellow perch colored Rapala husky jerk size06 and a Spro BBZ-1 baby shad.....Looks great lets hope the big brown and bows think so too.

Today the Perch had thinned out some, still managed a decent amount of them, Crappies were up on the flat and on the chew. I also caught a few small LM Bass and 2 decent white perch. The one White Perch was a healthy specimen....Hit like a ton of bricks and pulled some drag. Damn they are strong....If we get water temps up by about 5 to 6'F the Crappies will be going off. Glad I am on vacation till April 25th.

nice fish!

took my TSR791 down to Lake Ontario today to cast for some trout with an old model stradic and was VERY impressed with the rod. It casts tiny spinners better than my IMX841-2 (that I recently sold) and seems to be a smoother casting rod overall, perhaps due to the one peice configuration?? I also love the handle. very comfortable.

considering how well this outfit fished, I will probably go with the stradic 1000 FI rather than spend the extra on the sustain 1000 FE. I think it was amazing even with an older stradic 1000 that normally lives on another rod..

I will post pics when I do get a new reel for it though.
I didnt catch any trout today though, so this rod has yet to see a bend..

Ranger, where did you find the TSR801-1? GLoomis does not list this rod on their website?

Dragon1,

Hulk is right I meant to type TSR801-2.....Typo I think I was using my droid phone to post the reply. Been catching heaps of crappie and trout last few days. Crappie setups, TSR801-2 combos with a melon pepper power grub on one and Charlie Brewer slider grub in watermelon chartreuse on the other. TSR802-2 rigged with 2" Bass Proshops Spring grub on a 1/16oz jig. TSR740-2 1.5in Stanley Wedgetail minnow in smoke/clear tail.

Trout combos TSR802-2 rigged with a ecogear vx35 blade in gold tiger, TSR862-2 with a ecogear SX43 crankbait, SMR750S with a Luvias 1003 Pointer 65DD in color mat pumkin, SR783-2 with a Certate 1003 with a Rapala size 06 Xrap in hot steel.
Below 3lb Rainbow ate the ecogear SX43.....great fight, pulled some decent drag....

I've been fishing a 681-2 since they were introduced. After trying a Sustain I actually preferred the balance of the Ci4 1000. Sure is a nice series. A 740-2 might be in my future...

Dragon1,

I have had many custom rods and as you all know many G Loomis factory rods. I think the TSR series is the most diverse and fishable ul factory series out there. I use mine for everything I target. The ul models fish a jig and plastic for crappie and perch as well as a pins minnow and spinner for trout. The light action models I own work great with crankbaits like the SX43/SX48 and ripbaits like the Xrap 06 and Luckycraft pointer 65/65DD. They also do great with shakey head worms and 4in slim senko rigged wacky style. So I guess you can say they have become my favorite rods to fish.
But IMHO only.

today I tried a new Sustain 1000 FE right out of the box and it was super smooth but had a balance issue (slight wobble) so I had my local tackle store special order me in another one (and I saved the 14% tax since it was a spring sale today). I played with some stradic 1000 FI's but they were not as smooth as the sustain.

so I bit the bullet and ordered one.

apparently, local tackle stores around my area carry lots of 2500s and 3000s but almost no 1000's in.

few buy the high end reels in the small sizes it seems..

stay tuned for pics when it comes in!

earlier in the thread, we were talking about balance.

with a Sustain 1000 and 6 pound mono, the combo can be balanced on your finger without falling, which is pretty good. as you can see from the pic, it leans slightly towards the butt end, but I have always thought that if you can balance an outfit on one finger without it falling, its pretty damn good balance. you can fish all day and not get tired.

I did not catch any trout today
