Side Imaging on a Kayak

Post by Hobie-Wan Kenobi » Tue Feb 10, 2015 1:24 pm

I have a PA 12 and I am looking to make a mount to hold the transducer. I am seeing if anyone has done something similar. I dont want to use the Lowrance Ready slot on the bottom because I will be moving my unit in and out of the kayak.

The RAM TDA (transducer deployment arm) is always a good choice. Also the Mad Frog Liberator gets good reviews.

I had a friends father fabricate a metal piece for my rudder. I mounted the transducer to my rudder and works great!

The ram transducer arm has a special plate for mounting that transducer.

I don't own it, but I can imagine it would work very well and clean.

This is for a bird but it should still work for you.

I built one that clamps on to any flat spot on a boat. It is very water resistant though  It's PVC sleeved inside more PVC to allow depth adjustment. I have pins through to lock it in. The clamps are just small C-Clamps. Wires are run through it. Probably too ghetto for your Yak

Cheaper the better. I couldn't stomach paying for RAM mounts

Here's what I set up my Hobie PA14 a couple of years ago for my HB 898 ff with Side imaging. Worked well, but I t would catch weeds though...was kind of a pain. The new scupper mount system is great, it just won't work for side imaging though.
