Pro angler 14 or predator XL
Pro angler 14 or predator XL
I'm Trying to decide between this 2 kayaks. This will be my first kayak. I will be fishing small lakes and rivers. I know the XL is pretty new but I believe is close to the 13. I will be standing most of the time. I was also looking at the cooda he. Thank you for your help.

I am a Native guy by nature...if money is not an object, go with the PA14 IMO.

Re: Pro angler 14 or predator XL
I'd go with the Pro Angler also. I had a 2009 Pro Angler and a 2010. In about October/November 2010 I sold the Pro Angler and started trying other kayaks (7 different ones). I'm currently trying to save up enough money for a new Pro Angler, I didn't know what I had until I no longer had it.
Re: Pro angler 14 or predator XL
I been researching kayaks for a few months now and it looks like everyone likes the pro angler. I'm going to wait a few months since is ice out here. Hopefully Ill find a sale. Thanks again.

Re: Pro angler 14 or predator XL
I started roof racking the Pro Angler on a full size 4wd Chevy Silverado this ended shortly. We roof racked because we had 2 Pro Anglers and both wouldn't fit in the bed of the truck with the fiberglass tonneau cover. We went to a trailer almost 5 years ago and haven't looked back.
Re: Pro angler 14 or predator XL
Your comments been very help full. I'm a newbie so everything helps. Ill start looking in to a trailer cause the racks have me a little scare. I was thinking Yakima q towers with the boat loader bar but driving in the wind is the question.
Re: Pro angler 14 or predator XL
You definitely don't want to have to roof rack the PA on a regular basis. Go with a trailer. There are great companies that make them and there are some awesome youtube videos of homemade and modified trailers.

Re: Pro angler 14 or predator XL
I know the Yakima Rack and Roll isn't for everyone, and I didn't think it was for me at first. I bought a cheapish new trailer for around $750, and then added another $500+ in modifications (metal fenders, tounge extension, LED waterproof lights, longer heavier axel, bigger hubs, went from an 8" tire to 12" tire, bought a spare tire. After all this I still didn't have the trailer I wanted, so I ended up selling it and got what I had wanted from day 1 a Yakima Rack and Roll. I have around 100,000 miles on the trailer (3 Texas trips, 10-15 Florida Keys/Everglades trips, 5 South Carolina Trips, countless Indiana trips, and everyday trips around here). I'm on my 3rd set of tires, and before we get rolling next season I'll be replacing the wheel bearings for the 1st time, I'm also going to replace the cracked fenders, and maybe upgrade to the new LED lights. The Yakima Trailer has been a great investment. It is very lightweight, easy to store and pulls like a dream.

That trailer looks cool and is very light. I'm pretty sure is worth the money. I'm going to order one from harbor freight for now. Is $300.00 will see. Hopefully my Corolla pulls it on the ramps. I've seen a lot of good Harbor Freight built trailers. I think that would be ok for local fishing, but I wouldn't push it on long trips.

You can use the harbor freight trailer for long trips if you upgrade the tires. I haven't done it but know someone who has.
Re: Pro angler 14 or predator XL
Yeah I was going to go that route but I bought an old re condition trailer with 12" tires. I order my pro angler a few weeks ago but I don't get it for a couple of months. That will give me some time to install the pvc bunkers.landscraper wrote:You can use the harbor freight trailer for long trips if you upgrade the tires. I haven't done it but know someone who has.
Re: Pro angler 14 or predator XL
Wouldn't mind either... I don't really want a trailer... Takes away from the convenience of having a kayak IMO. My SUV Has 8" of lift... So roof rack mount would be such a pain
