I've used Lexell in the hull, I've used a Mad Frog Liberator, and I've used Duct Seal in the hull.

I prefer duct seal in the hull, it's not messy, easy to remove, gets good readings, easy to install, stays put, not in your way being above the deck.

X2 on the duct seal. Cheap to purchase and a breeze to install.

I've had my transducer through-hull on the Ride135, and I've used a liberator on my Commander and Pro Angler. I prefer to have my transducer in the water with a liberator(or similar product). However, properly installed, through-hull is perfectly fine.

BTW, all my fishfinders and through hull installed and the only skewed reading you will get is water temperature which to me is not very important.

I used Humminbird's shoot-through mounting kit. $25-30 and it's solid. Don't think I'll ever have to re-apply.

I've used Humminbird, and Lowrance. I'm currently using my wife's Lowrance Elite 4, while I'm in the process of finding one for myself.

I had an in hull setup on my hobie sport but now that I'm using side imaging I wanted to mount it so its in the water and so the turbo fins don't interfere.

I being involved with full size boat's and yacht's(I'm a marine technician)always look at mounting outside and attached to the hull yes this requires drilling am I worried, well not too much as I've drilled a few thousand holes into boats ranging in size from a 16th of a inch to 5"s in size because of hull design the Hobie Kayak's lend themselves well to rigging my own yak included, some of the side scanning systems like the ones from Lowrance or Hummingbird are awesome my preference has always been for Lowrance but I've installed many Hummingbird systems and had very favorable feedback from the users of them.
