Man that water is cold!!

Post by l2yan » Sun Feb 27, 2011 3:24 pm

 I took my new Perception Pescador 12 out to Priest this evening. 1st time out, no rods, just wanna get comfortable first. Paddled around for couple hours in the wind :-s and had fun with my new lowrance elite DSI unit. Lots of fun. I'd decided before I even hit the water that I was gonna dump a few times to get comfortable with the limits of the kayak. Well I stood for a bit, even in the wind 8-) , but fell a couple times from standing. Then I tested my 'leaning' limits. I had to really lean all the way to fall in. All I have to say is: THAT WATER IS COLD!! 50 degrees doesnt sound that cold, but it was definitely enough to leave me numb half the trip home  All in all, I really had a blast! I can't wait to get it slimed, and I am in love with the DSI :big grin: See you on the water!!

From the man Bill Dance himself: "You have a 50/50 chance to survive 50min. in 50 degree water."

gotta be careful with that...70 degree water can cause hypothermia if you are in it for too long!!

Yep, I figured better now while I'm prepared to fall in, then when I'm actually fishing a river and the 'unexpected' occurs. There's just no substitute for solid preparation :big grin:

Thats some pretty brave preparation. 50 degree water would just be a tad over my comfort zone for taking a dip... Like the new Yak though.. And be safe out there..

No replacement for a good dry-suit and a PFD.
