Is BASS back to nets?

Post by cjtoad » Tue Feb 07, 2012 12:18 am

I just saw a couple of pics of Chris Lane landing bass with a net at what looked like his Open win. Is BASS back to nets or are those photos from something else? I've always liked the no net rule, would hate to see it go again.

I love having a net, But I agree that landing fish at the boat can be the hardest part and definitely shows how a calmer angler will prevail!

I asked BASS about this on Twitter after they had several tournaments in a row where guys were badly hooked with crankbait hooks and needed to go back to the marina or to the hospital for treatment (like Palaniuk at Bull Shoals). They said it's something they will consider but that nets on the Elite Series isn't on the table right now.

Personally I'd rather see guys using nets than see someone lose a tournament they could have won because they spent half the day in the hospital with a hook in the hand.

Nets are for Muskies. I never use a net. Sure there's been times I have lost fish at the boat. But I am just preparing for when I make it to the Elite Series. You never know. ;)

Why do they need a net when the majority of the time they just boat flip the fish? :?

You would need a ref in every boat. Also, they are getting a bit nutso with the no touch clothes and stuff. Some of that can put both the angler and the fish into a potentially dangerous situation.
