It all started with the plastic worm and has now mutated into a huge array of specialized offerings. Whose is the best and which one is your favorite? Come share your thoughts and opinions here.
Ok this crack does gets bit hard. Really vicious strikes as others said.
Unfortunetely cant comment on durability as it has been pike magnet.
However, my hook up ratio was pretty poor. I fished 3.8 on spring lock 5/0 hook weighless and I think i will try different rigging option, but still weighless. Maybe ill nose hook it.
I fished one texas rigged for the first time this weekend on a 1/4oz weight (3.8"). After a few casts something bit off the tail and the action wasn't nearly the same.
How is everyone rigging these? Weightless, texas rigged, free rig, etc? I'm not sure if texas rigged is the best option.
I've been thinking that maybe I should have a dedicated setup for this Bellow's Gill.
Seems the popular way to fish it is on a 3/8oz free rig but I have found it had to get a hold of the weights with the rubber inserts that slid up and down the line. A rod 7'2"`7'4" in my opinion is where I should be..
Im interested in how others are fishing this lure and what setup your using for it.
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible

Depending on depth, weedless 1/8 or 3/16 oz slider or darter style head. Free rig.
I threw the bellowsgill 3.8 alot this spring and will continue . 1/8oz free rig and jika was what I settled on. These things have a lot more weight than you would expect.

How was the durability on them? I've seen some negative reviews in that regard

They aren't as bad as you would think. Not nearly as bad as senkos. They're super slippery and smell like $h1T but they certainly seem to work. These baits, for me, really shine in the spring during the prespawn when their feeding on bluegill in the grass/pads. they fish "bigger" than you think if that makese sense. The 3.8 seems larger than a normal 3.8.
I've been fishing the slightly cheaper aliexpress knock off bellows gill and I did not like the bait at 1st. Didn't do anything for me when worked through the water column in lake where gills are the primary forage and I get bit on gill baits. Wrote them off and was glad I tried the bait out with the chinease knock off 1st and saved a bit of money on a bait I didn't end up liking. Now this year, on a shad based lake, my big female bite has been running bluegill baits in the shallows over spawning grounds. I decided to give these one more go but in a light 1/8 oz texas rig with the aliexpress 4.1 inch baits I have and sure enough they are getting bit. There is also a TON on that fibrous winter slime that forms over winter that has coated everything and gotten kicked loose by boats and making fishing shallow an absolute pain. This bait on a light texas rig seems to be immune which is a breath of fresh air in addition to being a fish catcher. I'll be getting the real deal and their craws for sure.
