One of my absolute favorites, but I can't seem to find them anywhere. Are they discontinued?

Speaking of my favorite bass bait.. What is the most effective method of fishing these? I almost always pull it up off the bottom, then let it glide back down on a slack line. I let it sit on the bottom for several seconds then give it a couple quick upward lifts again with the rod, then let it swim back to the bottom again. I reel in some line each time. I am trying to make it look like a startled crawdad, the way they scoot away when disturbed. The bass will usually hit the bait when the Ika gets back to the lake bottom. I've heard of fishermen basically just winding it back slowly along the bottom, almost like working a plastic worm. Does anyone fish it this way?

I fish them with the skirt trailing, but some people put the skirt at the top at the hook eye.

What method do you use?

I have also read about inserting a nail. Comments would be appreciated.

I usually buy them at dicks and field and stream, but the last few times they haven't had any. Good to see them at tw. I rig them weightless skirt up. One of my favorites.

With the Fat Ika, having the skirt facing towards the hook eye will add 10% to the casting distance. It becomes a real bullet. Also, when you pop it off the bottom, it swims back to the bottom but in the direction opposite to your position - it swims away. This is very cool when fishing rip-rap along a steep drop - the bait heads back to the rocks instead of swimming away from the cover. It also drops away from the direction of the cast, allowing a better presentation under low hanging branches or logs.

I haven't done it yet, but I really want to try this with a screw in weight at the far end like a Neko Rig.

What size hook are you all using? I'm currently using a 3/0 EWG, but I'm not sure if that's too small?
