Shakey head preferences

Post by Randingo » Tue May 16, 2017 4:27 am

Do you prefer shakey heads with screwlocks/keepers, or more typical jigheads with a barb to keep the plastic? I'm planning on trying the Frenzy, and the Davis in the normal jig style in addition to the All Terrain head, and probably the two Dirty Jigs shakey heads in the screw lock style in addition to my Megastrike e2 heads. I'm also going to get a bunch of the FinTech heads, but I don't really see them as shakey heads.

I'm increasingly of the opinion that you're better off with a screw keeper than not. That goes for shakey heads and flipping hooks alike.
This is the way.

Unless you're using elastech products (Zman) then a screw lock is probably the most secure way of fixing a bait.

Screw locks are WAY better than a barb in my experience. Stuff just doesn't stay on a barb long.

Screw locks, either the Picasso shaky heads (Admittedly, theirs are a bit small) or the Riot Baits ones (Football and Protestor).

Screw locks are the way to go. Keeps everything streamlined and have better hooksets...

Sounds like everyone prefers screw locks...anybody know if they sell the screw locks on their own. Can we simply attach one to our regular hook, say 4/0 ewg. If so, any brand preferences or links?

The basic Owner heads with the CPS spring in the lead, Owner Shakey Ultraheads. I am torn on screw lock versus jigheads also. I use the Owner Ultrahead Finesse Ball Heads too, and add my own big shrink wrap barb.

The Gambler Giggy heads aren't so bad either (screw locks), the new Aaron Martens Rhino Heads from Picasso look good too.

I have heard good about the Davis Baits heads, never used them though. The Provider Tackle Survivor Series Shaky Heads have a great Owner hook, but as a few other people mentioned, their bait keeper is rough on worms and they don't stay positioned as well or long as the screw locks do. Super glue can fix that though if you really find a good jig head and it isn't a screw lock.
