Kietech 4" Swing Impact

Post by njbasscat » Sat Mar 14, 2015 10:35 pm

I've read about these for years and finally got some to try out. I also purchased Kietech tungsten jig heads with a 3/0 hook to rig them. For those who use them, what's your favorite way to rig them? What's your favorite way to work them?

I don't see much written about this bait. I have found it to be very successful as a finesse bait. I use it weightless with the Owner Twistlock Finesse hook. This hook is extremely fine wire and will bend if you like to water ski your fish and then throw them into your boat. I fish this bait on a ML spinning rod with 4-5 pound line. I fish it in shallow water (6" to 3') for river smallmouth. When the smallmouth are on these shallow flats this rig works great for me and I have landed fish up to 21" with it. You might also try the Berkley Havoc Beat Shad. It seems to work as well for me and is quite a bit less expensive.

Used these last fall on the upper Mississippi in Northern MN for fall eyes. Rigged them on 1/8oz jig heads. Cast up stream, slow rolled and caught our limit of eyes. Safe to say, I bought 10 packs after the trip

Everyone likes the swing impact but I favor the Easy Shiner because it is a more versatile bait. The ways I have most success with them is on a jig head, 1/8oz with a 3/0 hook, and they are great on the back of a swim jig. Try fishing the swing impack on a jig head and fish it like a tube on the bottom, it sounds stupid but it has worked great for us when fishing cold water.

Keitech's site has some good rigging info.

That doesn't sound stupid at all. It's how I fish a grub and really works at times.

i should clarify that I don't fish this bait on a jig head due to the heavy weed beds I am fishing. I swim the bait thru and over the weeds.

I like the shiners better as well. I like the owner weighted twistlock for cover or Serbert jig heads for open deep water.

Sometimes I rig them on a weighted swimbait hook or scrounged head.

Thanks for your insight. It seems like a bait that you can't rig wrong.

They also work great as a finesse texas rig with a 1/16 or 1/32 ounce bullet weight and 2/0 or 1/0 hook

That's what I'm thinking. After getting them, they look very much like a Lake Fork Baby Ring Fry with a tail. I love the ring fry on a light Texas rig and imagine that these will work very similar but target the more aggressive fish in the school.

I use them with regular swim heads, but like someone said a real light finesse head or just weightless works wonders on spooked fish. Just cast it out and let it drop with twitches and it gets them to bite.

I use a lot of Keitech baits, I like the swing impact when they are biting slow, the fat impact when they are a little more aggressive, and I just picked up some of the craw baits and am anxious to try them.

The only bad thing about Keitechs is trying to find them in stock.
