Z-Man Plastics Finesse Worm -- Problems ??
I was fishing a club tournament last year in the back of the boat. I was using a shakey head, and I wanted to use a Z-Man finesse worm. BUT, I just could not get the worm head screwed onto the spring of the shakey head.
I even cut off a small piece of the worm head, but the worm just would not screw on.
I then asked the boater to try it, and he could not get the worm screwed on either.
I am curious if this is just our experience, or have others had the same problems...not only with the worms, but other Z-Man plastics.

Ya, it's the plastic formula, that's why they last a week. Same on the SK Elastech baits. Use a pin keeper or a std. worm hook, they can also be a pain. Brian.

I think I read somewhere that if you heat up the spring it will slide right in. Try hitting it with a lighter for a few seconds next time.

They also melt in the sun if your not careful!

They'll also do a number on other plastics. Brian.zodiak311 wrote:They also melt in the sun if your not careful!

I hear everyone....thanks for the great info.
I have my Z-man plastics up for sale.
I don't like spending a lot of time putting a worm on a hook or jig head; or using other methods like heating the hook.

Hate those darn things... It's crazy how they basically eat other plastics . They are durable as hell, but a pain to use!

Like the others have said, the elastech or whatever they call it basically will melt if you place it next to another plastic bait. I won't have them, I spent 6 hours trying to clean a melted one out of the boat carpet and they don't like screw locks as you already found out. The thing is I happen to really like the screw lock, I make my own now but before I did I tried every shaky head that was around thinking if I found one I can't make I'll just buy it and so far the screw lock may take a few seconds to put the worm on versus a spike of some sort but nothing I used held like the screw lock but I don't use Z-Man.

It is odd how the Elaztech is nearly indestructible in the water but melts from the sun or touching a regular bait.

I add the owner screw keepers to my worm hooks and screw them on to that . Just pokke the end of the worm as if you are texas rigging it ,take it out , then screw the worm on . Grip the worm tight and turn it as much as you can until it gets a grip on the pin, re-grip , and turn again . I never have to redo when i use this setup , just have to re -texas rig the point after catching a fish . Those worms are tough for a reason . Dont let the worm win !

I was into the elastech hype and bought a bunch of worms and jig trailers. After a while i noticed less bites and the jig trailers would melt some of my jig skirts when i leave them on the deck. They are durable but i got tired of the hassle and tried giving some away, but nobody wanted any so it went to the trash.
I just use reins and roboworms most of the time nowadays.

They're definitely a pita to use and can be tough to start on a screw lock. My main observation has been that
after getting wet, the appendages start sticking to themselves and you're left with no action.(No fish. )
