Absolute favorite shad-imitating plastics!

Post by l2yan » Sat Mar 05, 2011 8:38 am

I would have to say there are so many different great ones out there, some that even look more realistic than the real thing  But when all is said and done, when I'm not relying on my bucktails, I prefer shad colored tubes or 4" worms for imitating shad the most. After that would probably be the curly tail grubs and paddle tail swimbaits.

What about you?

I like the Zulu & Zulu 2 from Strike King due to the elastic and bouyant nature of the plastic formulation.
It floats a Gammy 4/0 skip gap hook, my favorite for this bait and the topwater explosions are great!
High percentage hook-ups are an added bonus, I fish this rig faster than other topwater lures, resembles
fleeing baitfish. 8-)

I've had great success in open water situations for smallies where loud baits were not producing, these
baits (Zulus) can be walked or simply hopped out of the water for a different look. Don't forget that
because it's texas rigged, the technique is equally at home in and around heavy cover. Hope this helps.

Never used them on a scrounger head, but they can be deadly at times on a Zappu inch wacky.

Haven't used them yet, but I have a few pkgs. of the Black Dog fake fish that I'm dying to try out.
I swear I had 500+ posts, I swear it!

Alright I got some of these and didn't know what to do with them. On topic, I like the GYCB shad shape worms and flukes.
