Uncle Josh Pork Rinds Discontinued

Just heard the bad news. Called the factory to confirm. I was told the rinds are being harvested too young losing it's durability. Too much waste to make a product. No word on clearance at the factory store so keep an eye out.

Bad news, very strange explanation.

I rarely use pork any more, since plastic with built-in scent can be bought and ElazTech plastic lasts like pork without drying out. But I always felt a connection to long-standing fishing tradition when using pork.

I wonder if U.J. will continue making its MEAT line, which is pork fat rather than rind.

i was going to buy a few last week, but had been told the quality of the baits were poor at best... i held off, but really wanted some for the cold weather jig fishing i plan on doing (if it turns cold)

That's why my local tackle shop had them all discounted...
I picked up a bunch at $2 a jar. Glad I did, even if its just
for nostalgic purposes.

Used them many years ago, didn't care for how hard they were to use and store.

I was under the impression they were just trying to get away from wasteful/expensive/inefficient packaging when they launched their 'meat' series.

These come in bags similar in construction to berkley gulp baits instead of glass or plastic jars that spill.

Seems they still sell them in Japan. Maybe these are actually made over there instead of here? http://www.bass.co.jp/index.php?m=k&cc=0006&kc=0001

They are made in USA according to the labels. They do have other brands who make JDM pork rinds for same price though.

bought em once, about 25 years ago. After dealing with the mess and dried up leather on a spinnerbait. They went in the trash. Sorry to hear them go away though. They are classic.

You only use them in cold water as jig trailers, for me atleast.

I suspect that the reason that they are discontinuing them has little to do with the age of the pigs and more to do with the fact that they are just not selling much anymore. With the proliferation of different trailers on the market, most of which are scented and salty as well, who wants to muck about with a messy product that invariably needs to be surgically removed from your hook at the end of the days fishing.
