I have been tying my ledge jigs using rabbit zonker strips/bucktail but would like to add a feather or two. I can't tell by looking at pictures on the interweb what kind of feather's I should buy. Could someone tell me what type of feather i should use. Probably going to purchase from Jans/Barlows/orvis, unless there are any suggestions. Thanks.

Strung Chinese Hackle should suffice, same stuff used on feather trebles. Marabou will flow more, but it also collapses A LOT in the water making a dry bushy pattern very small once wet. Schlappen will have long flowing webs, but really isn't needed for this application as it is better used hackled. Just about any fly shop will carry it in every color under the sun for around $5 a bag. If you have one local that is best as you can inspect the package and make sure you get lots of long full feathers and not short stubby webby ones.

Strung hackle is the best, but you have to make sure it is long enough. If you order it online ask how long it is but out of all the hackle I've used the best strung hackle is spirit River. You need hackle that is long like 7" or 8", you may only need 6" but remember, the bottom 2" of hackle is the fluff, webby part of the feather that you don't want to use.

i use the flair hawks for largemouth they are normally used for snook. They work very well and are really durable.
