Skirtless Buzzbaits

I have been experimenting with lures and I was wondering if anyone else takes the skirt off of some of their buzzbaits and puts a chunky trailer on like a toad or bigger fluke?

I haven't tried this technique, but it's apparently becoming more popular. I plan on trying it this year.

I use a toad on mine. I rig it with the nose slightly rigged up. I think it may stay on top easier at lower speeds.

Been taking the skirt off and replacing it with a fluke/jerk shad type bait for quite a while. Different profile, changes speed/sound and casts a lot better in any breeze. Works especially well on smallies for some reason...

Many anglers use skirtless buzzbaits with a thinner profile swimbait to help lessen short strikes from both largemouth and especially smallmouth in clear water. I keep a few skirtless buzzbaits close by in case I want to try a different look. I use the frog as a trailer around lily pads and grass in dirtier water where I know frogs are present.

Good to get different insight. Not directly related to this but, with the internet and mass media, it seems like trends tend to spread like wildfire. The drop shot for example.

I have been doing this for years. One of my favorites baits to use is a tube. Don't tell anyone or it will be all over the net.

I almost never use a skirt on my buzzbaits. Almost always a 5in grub, zoom horny toad, or swimbait.

I know Brian Thrift won a tournament last year taking skirt off. Used a fluke instead. Skipped buzzbait way under docks and wore them out. Something fish never saw before I guess. I want to try for sure.
