Tube Jigs/Craw Jigs
Tube Jigs/Craw Jigs
Hey guys,
For anyone who drags tubes or craws or whatever for smallies.
What kind of jig heads do you prefer?
Craws ecspecially I am looking for some tugsten jig heads that are suited well for dragging chigger craw style baits for smallies in the 1/4-1/2oz range?
Also has anyone found a need really for tungsten when it comes to tube jigs or is lead stil the thing there since it is inside the tube?
I have always used and like the Bite Me brand any other recomendations?
I mainly fish the western basin of Lake erie.
Thanks guys

If you're dragging a craw, a football head is great. I mostly do this with spinning gear and 8# fluoro, so I prefer football heads with a lighter wire hook vs. the big heavy hook - a little easier to get hook penetration with a bunch of line out and a spinning rod with light line.
For tubes, the Bite Me heads are really the best there is, IMHO. They have a 3/0 Gamakatsu that's about the perfect combination of size, nasty sharp point and wire diameter. It can be tough to get hooks on a long cast or when you're dragging with a lot of line out, and smallies are very good at airmailing a jig back to you, especially if it's on a 1/2 or 3/4 oz head. The Bite Me jigs were designed for this, and they're awesome. I've never found a reason to use any other.

Re: Tube Jigs/Craw Jigs
i used to fish a lot of tubes, but since the creature craze especially the beaver i fish 80% creatures over tubes. head wise i use a keitech ball head or a small football head with a lite hook and no weedguard for the creatures creature wise i like the sweet beav and hairy hawgs from imakatsu jdm company

Re: Tube Jigs/Craw Jigs
I'd have to say a football head is #1 for dragging. But when it comes to tubes, I still prefer to use a standard round head rigged inside the tube 99% of the time. I just seem to catch more fish with it..
