Shad schooling around my swim jig

This weekend I tried fishing a swim jig for the first time. I was throwing a Dirty Jigs swim jig (new sexy shad) with a Optimum Double Diamond 3.5" trailer (sexy shad). I didn't catch any on it but shad kept schooling around my bait 4 or 5 at a time. They were about 5 to 10 inches in length. I would get my jig back to the boat do a figure 8 and the shad would follow it. I have never had this happen with any other lure I've thrown. Has this happened to anyone else before? I thought it was pretty cool.

had a similar experience during a tourny couple of years ago-started throwing a 1/2 to 3/4 oz spinnerbait with a real shiny blade-second cast caught a 5lber, and continued to catch fish on every cast for over an hour when i decided to get to weigh in. If there were no shad bumpin and following spinnerbait there was no bite. And oh yeah, won the Va Pro AM by quite a margin.
