Which Lucky Craft?

Post by gyro » Tue May 24, 2005 8:44 pm

I'm thinking of buying my brother his first Lucky Craft lure and can't decide which one. He mainly fishes freshwater lakes for smallies. He's not as addicted as I am to fishing so he requires easy high producing lures.

Any suggestions?

So far, I'm looking at a Pointer vs. Slender Pointer vs. Live Pointer. Which of these is better than the others?

I'll probably get it in American Shad or Aurora Brown.

thanks for the help.

Luckycraft American shad 78 pointer for shallow runs and 75 bevy for 6-8ft depth. I also like Ghost minnow and citrus shad.

Gyro,

Personally, I have not developed any confidence in using ANY jerkbaits so I cannot comment on the LCs you listed. Now LC Crankbaits...That's another story! They just work. I've had a lot of success with Moonsaults, BDS, Bevy Cranks, RC 1.5, and Combat. i generally fish shallow structure so I stay with shallow running version of these baits. What I've found is that when one LC is not working, try a different one and It will catch fish.

I do not own the colors you mention but here are my color preferences?

Chart Shad - Great all-round color
Mat Tiger - Awesome muddy water color
Pearl Ayu - works well in clear water.
Chartrues Blue - Great color for stained water or early morning / late evening.

the RC series has its own colors. I stay with the RC version of the above colors.

Mike

BTW - You might be intruducing your brother to an Lucy Craft Addiction :evil22:

I've had pretty good success with the Live Pointer. If this will be his first LC, the uniqueness of this design will really stand out and has a "neat" factor that would make it an interesting gift. I haven't used any other LC's, so I can't comment on how they compare. I have both American Shad and Aurora Black. Both work equally well for bass and Pike.

Thanks for the help guys. Well it looks like I'm down to the Pointer and Slender Pointer. Wish there were videos showing their action. The Pointer 65, 78, 100 have great track records but the Slender Pointer has three trebles and supposedly has a better action. But there doesn't seem to be many ppl who have tried the Slender Pointer. Either that or they have and don't want to tell others their secret.

Well I couldn't resist and ended up getting an RC1.5 (based on KoYak's advice) and a Pointer 78 for myself. My bro got a Slender Pointer 112 and Live Pointer. Guess the addiction is just starting for my bro and is getting worse for myself. I was looking at the LV-500 max but will hold off til I hear more things about it.

Anyone try the LV-500?
