Did you see this review?

Or did you mean if there's any different in
left and right hand retrieve of the same model?

Re: Differences of the daiwa td-x hvl vs hsd reels?
Daz,
the team daiwa 103 reel seems to have many different models and i cannot tell from the daiwa website what the differences are. i am a lefty and from pictures the left and right look like different models. Am i wrong?
i have heard great things about these reels but cannot figure which one to get. want it for short/moderate sidearm/underhand casts and skipping.

The Daiwa website sucks!
I always look elsewhere for Daiwa info.
There is the TDX103HSD (right hand retrieve)
and TDX103HSDL (left hand retrieve)
or if you want the TDX103HSDF(right hand) which has
some other stuff. I think braking system.

The left and right hand models look different because
Daiwa cannot make the same reel with the left
or right hand retrieve, unlike Shimano and others
have done. As you can tell, the left hand retrieve
model is slightly heavier as well. I don't have a lefty
reel but some people tell me they still work good.
To me, it looks weird.

Re: Differences of the daiwa td-x hvl vs hsd reels?
I wanted one for short/medium sidearm casts and skipping with a left hand retrieve. Is this overkill or should i use the new scorpion quickfire? Concerned about overuns with the skipping presentation.
Re: Differences of the daiwa td-x hvl vs hsd reels?
Wandy, I like to crank left handed too. I was considering buying a leftie Daiwa unti I noticed a striking difference between the right and left hand models. The left hand has a little switch (kind of like a light switch) instead of the thumb bar clutch on the right hand models. I think it's pretty lame. They may be just as good (as the right hand model) on the retrieve and drag but ergonomically, I don't like them at all. Now if they could replacate the right hand model into a left hand, I'd love to have one.
Re: Differences of the daiwa td-x hvl vs hsd reels?
Derringer, I just took a look at the left handed daiwa...yup, no thumb bar. But looking more closely that may not be such a bad thing. When hooksetting or retrieving i sometimes accidentally release the spool when i rest my thumb on the thumb bar of my scorpion. having the release mechanism where it is on the daiwa does not seem so horrible after all but i have not held it so i am not sure if the release is too far out of the way for functionality.
Re: Differences of the daiwa td-x hvl vs hsd reels?
Wandy, i guess it depends on how you like to hold your reel. I like to palm the reel even when i'm cranking. I just get better feel that way. I guess if you like to hold the reel with your thumb resting where the thumb bar would be it wouldn't be a big deal. I wouldn't tell anyone not to buy it. You gotta go with whatver you're comfortable with. I just think the team daiwa lefties are more bulky and, I don't know, just plain weird. But, that's me. I'm fortunate to own 2 Quantum 1311 MG left hand reels (sadly, no longer made) and they work great for me. Today, you're just really limited when it comes to left hand low profile baitcasters. I think it would be nice to see Quantum put out the Energy PT with left hand retrieve.
Re: Differences of the daiwa td-x hvl vs hsd reels?
Wandy, NO OFFENSE! I just about die laughing when i picture you setting the hook and accidently disengaging the spool. I'm sure it's not funny to you but I think I'd pay to see that!
Re: Differences of the daiwa td-x hvl vs hsd reels?
Its happened. Wish i would learn my lesson. May just need to get one of those LH daiwas just for the safety sake.
Re: Differences of the daiwa td-x hvl vs hsd reels?
LMAO!!! sorry! thas ok, i set the hook once and got a spinnerbait right between the eyes. Anyone else wanna share an embarrassing fishing story?
Re: Differences of the daiwa td-x hvl vs hsd reels?
Wandy, did you ever get the left handed model?
Any dislikes?

Re: Differences of the daiwa td-x hvl vs hsd reels?
I did get the tdx 103 hsdl LH reel. The LH model has the spool release lever in a difft position than the RH version. I think it is great for pitching as it works as a flipping switch. Also it is out of the way allowing me to rest my thumb without inadvertantly opening the spool on a hookset.
