My candidate for backlash of the year

Post by Fishingelbow » Tue Oct 02, 2007 8:32 am

May I respectfully(!) submit this picture for the B.O.Y. contest for 2007.

Also taking bets whether I can untangle this mess without cutting the line (you'll have to give me odds) ~X(

.........OUCH I feel your pain.

I (stupidly) let my girlfriend cast my baitcaster with braid (DOH!) once. That will never ever happen again, but I still think you have me beat.

Good luck on that one, my friend. I would be taking the scissors to it, unless you have some free time infront of the TV to pick it out.

that's a nice one FE! I could have given you a run for your money on a similar reel I had spooled with 14lb Fireline but I just cut it all off... those Morrum's sure can be tempermental. 8-)

That beats my brother's. I took my older brother fishing; he's not fished. Gave him a spinning reel and he was casting to beat the band. Tried to tell him it does not really matter how far the cast goes but where it lands.

Anyway, I was using a 103ML quite painlessly. Fishing 10 minutes, he got snagged. I took his set-up, he held mine. Freed his line and got mine back 15 seconds later with an awful mess. The look on his face was priceless as he handed it back to me. I tried not to laugh and stated "well looks like I'm done" and walked back to the cabin. He fished for about an hour and worked most of the afternoon on the nest.

It was a great day ;)

Man, that´s exactly how one of my pixys looked like after barely touching my fishing partner´s line when my cast was moving forward.

God bless whomever invented scissors. ;)

braids nest are easier to sort out in comparison to mono or fluro, fluro is the worst, hundreds of coil, each one identical to the next.

If you can take the spool out and slowly pull out all the loose lines out onto a large area like a clean floor then you are in business. Use weights to pin down each clump as you work. I give you 2-3hr. 4 if you have bad eye sight.

Did I mention my partner fluffed my brand new spool of sunline sniper on the first try? I didn't even get a cast in. the spool is tight fitted on the daiwa reel frame made it impossible to get the spool out. ( god bless shimano for the loose fit reel frame )

This is a very nice enthusiast reel! I love the look of that Abu Morrum IVCB.

Pretty easy to do, guys: just make sure your lure catches a branch a millisecond before you release it. It will jerk your thumb right off the spool and by the time it's back in position it's all over . And you don't even need a Mörrum to do it ;) !
Works particularly well when you're trying for a humongous across-the-river cast

Yep, those IVCBs are ferociously fast!

BTW, did you get the additional two brakes for the centrifugal brake wheel? It will help control the casting on that reel a lot. Call Abu and get some more brakes if you don't already have them.

And yes, I agree, in that "snag a limb while casting hard" scenario, it would have happened to just about any reel.

No stinkin additional brakes help to control the beast when you hang up on the cast.
