New Loomis Rod... Which One?

Post by panichunter » Mon Sep 24, 2007 12:25 pm

I have an old 3 piece broken rod that Loomis is no longer making. I was told that I can have a credit of $306 towards any of their rods using their Xpeditor Service. Now, I'm thinking BCR853 but I am open to any other options. As of now, my next best rods are a Crucial and a BPS Pro Qualifier so this will be a big step up. I would like to use this rod for plastics but it would be nice if it work for other techniques as well. I never use anything over 20lbs test and most often in the 10-14 range.

Thanks for the help and opinions

The 853 is probably your best choice. I have several of the BCR rods, in the 853 is the most versatile. I like the 854 for jigs, the 853 for most finesse jig and worm apps, and the 852 for throwing really finesse stuff or big topwaters.

Life is all about choices

The 853 GLX is your best bet for plastics (T-Rigs, C-Rigs) and Jigs. The shorter version in the 803 is in my rod locker. As good as the BCR is for plastics, it is a limited use rod outside that. Maybe buzzbaits or slow rolling a blade.

The MBR series is more multi-purpose but not quite as good for plastics. The MBR842 is an incredible multi-purpose rod and gets more multi-purpose use by me then would a MBR783 which would be better for plastics.

I own MBR782, MBR844, MBR842, BSR803 and BSR852. My favorites are the 842 and BSR 852. I used to own a 783 but gave it up when I bought the BCR803.

Another vote for the MBR 842...unless I want to commit this rod to mostly plastics, in which case the BCR854 would be my choice.

I vote for the MBR842C it's worth every penny. This stick is great for dropshot as well.

I vote for the mbr842c GLX...just because you want to use the rod for other techniques other than plastics. If the rod was for jigs/plastics only, I would definitely recommend the bcr853c GLX, I own this rod and I can't imagine a better t-rig stick. I absolutely love mine, but I don't use it for anything else but that. The 842 will be your better all purpose option..

As much as I love my 782 for jerkbaits, I can't imagine trying to set the hook with it. I own an 853, and it is ideal for all T-rigged worms, jigs up to 1/2oz, Senkos, and could use it as a chatterbait or spinnerbait rod as well. I use an mbr843 for spinnerbaits, but 853 can wear a few hats and gets my vote.

The MBR842 is at least 1/2 power stronger then my MBR782 and is great for finesse plastics (shakey head, drop shot and smaller senko's) and it does very well with spinnerbaits and buzzbaits and can be used for Cranks in a pinch. A much much more versitle rod then a BCR but if the rod will be used mostly for bigger plastics and jigs then the BCR hands down.
