Best use for TDZ 105H
Best use for TDZ 105H
I was wondering the best use form the TDZ 105 H?
Re: Best use for TDZ 105H
That is a terrible reel...
Best use is to send it to me so that I can use it for just about anything in my tackle box.

With the 6.3 gear ratio.....it is pretty much an all around baitcaster. Good for most applications.
Love my Z.

I use mine to catch fish.
Re: Best use for TDZ 105H
I own other Daiwa reels but not a TDZ 105H. If I did, like Chaos, I would provide my opinion/experience so as to help the guy out. Isn't this one of the main purposes of this forum?

IMO the 105 is best for either flipping/pitching or finesse fishing with really light line(8 lb. or less). Reason being is has virtually no line capacity. I tried to use mine for topwater, with 10 lb. mono, and cast the line off of it easily with Sammy 85's and 100's. So IMO it is best as a flipping/pitching reel or with light line so that you can get >75 yards or so on it.
For comparison purposes, it holds far less than a Sol/Alphas or 50Mg because I have never had any problem casting 10 lb. off the spool with them.

I agree with NCBigbass. I got one during the Cabela's sale, and have used it several times now. It is the best pitching reel that I have used, and that is straight out of the box. However, the limited line capacity limits its ability to be an all-around reel in my opinion. So I would say pitching, flipping, or any other technique that doesn't require a lot of line. Or use it as a light line finesse baitcaster.

On a serious note...
1/4-3/8oz poppers, and SBs, plastics up to whatever you like so long as you are not Carolina Riggin', and this is a great reel for shallow-med cranks up to 1/2 oz.
Also, I have never put on more than 10# test on this reel as to maximize line cap.

I like to use the 105H for pitching, but I have also used it throwing tubes and grubs with 8lb. line on occasion. Its a great all purpose reel, but it really shines in pitching/flipping.

I remember when Cabella's put these on sale. People were buying them popcorn at the movies. I commented on the low line capacity. You would have thought I cursed in church. Now I think that all the hoopla has quieted down, folks are seeing just why these reels were "excessed" in the first place.

Best pitching reel I've used to date. It is fine for 10lb mono and under for long casting applications if you choose. At the first of Cabelas sale, you could buy either the high capacity 103h or lower capacity 105h. I purchased 4 105's and 2 103's. The 105 is perfect for pitching with expensive fluorocarbon or braid, because you can get two spools out of a 110yd spool of heavy fluoro. The 105 still holds a lot of line compared to my pixy though

They were on sale because they were discontinued and replaced by the Steez; both the 103 and 105 were available when they were put on sale.

Re: Best use for TDZ 105H
I'm expecting to receive one soon (TDZ105HL). I would have preferred one with more line capacity but it's the only leftie model that's left. (I didn't want to miss out on this sale again.) Anyway, I'm gonna use it for pitching and if I can get 90 yards of 12/50 superline in it, I think that's plenty enough line. Now, if only I can find a good TWO-PIECE rod to pair with it I'm waiting for the specs of the new Avids. I am hoping St. Croix will surprise me.
Re: Best use for TDZ 105H
Funny you should say that. I looked and looked for a good 2 piece 7 ft jig/worm rod with a fast action. Gave up so after some discussions and research by Matt at Otterods, ordered a custom rod from him. Should be here late October. BTW, enjoy your new TDZ.Now, if only I can find a good TWO-PIECE rod to pair with it I'm waiting for the specs of the new Avids. I am hoping St. Croix will surprise me.
Get it while you can
