Ill keep it straight to the point. Id like to see you guys throw your DC system in your 200 and up dollar reels below the Calais. If you cant put them in all of them just one reel with it in that price range will do.

If they put the DC system in all of their reels and didn't shut the darned thing up...I would never buy another Shimano again....and please leave the VBS system as it is in the standard Calcuttas...please! You are just full of ideas to make all of us happy aren't you G.O..

As stupid, old fashioned, insane, and crazy as it may seem....some people prefer the "old" technology....In my personal opinion....and as Bantam stated in another thread which I concur...the magnetic Daiwa braking system may be "cutting edge" or whatever....it simply sucks in comparison to the vbs braking system which may have a problem or two resulting from assembly errors on the rare occasion but is so reliable and effective it's not even funny. The DC works fine but I want tranquil water time...not a robotic companion.

Scot,

I second everything that you just said.

GO,

If they put the DC system in their $200 reels, do you still think that they would be $200??? :?

They could put it in one reel without it effecting anything and I said 200 and up below the calais just to suggest a targeted market. I gave my idea in a general way so maybe they could run off with it maybe in any way theyd want assuming they have an open mind. Scot the magnetic brake systems Daiwa uses are proven effective systems that can be fine tuned with some tinkering they sure dont suck to me, I hate centrifugal in comparison but have overlooked it to expierence good products with it. http://www.japantackle.com/brake_system.htm give it a read. Id bet anything a reel like this from Shimano would sell.. id buy it.

There always developing new reels so what would it hurt to release one and test the market, like I said id deffinatly buy it.

The other thing I wish theyd focus just a little bit more on is weight but I think I read in the El Sato write up that were getting that and if thats the case, im siked.

That's the point.."with some tinkering" . Shimanos system doesn't care whether your pitching, casting, heavy, light, rolling...whatever! Look at all the "systems" and spools etc. to "fine tune" any Daiwa...the only Daiwa ,based upon ChuckE's findings, that doesn't seem to receive enhancements through "upgrading" is the Steez BC. At any given moment the tabs on ALL of my Daiwas just decide to stop working whether they were just cleaned, oiled, or whatever...they are simply not consistent and are not reliable...simple as that....don't get me wrong...I really like my Daiwas and I'm sorry if I seem to be a little defensive about "changes" It's just that all to often companies take something (such as the Calcutta Conq/TE's) where they have hit the proverbial home run and screw it up by going the "more advanced" route. Shimano seems to have a much more mature and level headed approach....it seems like yes..they are always open to ideas but number one...it better work and it's going to be a tough sell in the board room with the designers when it comes to integral changes which I personally think is smart because they have a fantastic design and don't take lightly the idea of changing it. Kinda like..."OK..show me". Any proposed changes to the Calcuttas....I know I won't make a real difference but I'll kick and scream the entire time :x

I third that statement. Just pull out two brakes and go fishing. Wind in your face... just thumb it a bit more (or buy a Calais DC, I guess).

Doesn't the digital control unit cost ~$170 on its own??? That'd leave just about nothing for the rest of the reel...

Besides, I'll fourth the statement above.

Now, this is a great idea, being able to discuss details with a factory representative. And they said it could not be done. I hope the rest are watching this closely.

My vote is to leave the DC to a single high end line. They call that market differentiation.

I just want a low profile reel that is both Mg and DC.
If you guys do in fact do the design and not just base your products on JDM products, this is what a lot of people want. This may be a way to prove you guys aren't dependent on Shimano Japan.

For now the DC unit will remain at a higher price point. Eventually the price could drop just like everything else in the technology world. I do not foresee this in the near future but it could happen.
