Lost lure

Post by NW Fisher » Wed May 09, 2007 9:31 am

So this past weekend while fishing on a fairly shallow lake with a muddy bottom, I decided to put on my LC live pointer. I was using my Viento/LTA 6'3" combo. After pitching it around a bit I decided to see how far I could cast the lure. I took a couple of moderately strong casts to warm up and felt like I could really let loose. So I wound up and let her fly.......snap.....plop......backlash, lost lure, and crushed ego. My buddy laughed his ass off. It took me about 20 minutes just to find the end of the line in the backlash and my lure sank to the bottom a good 30 to 40 yards away. Yup, that pretty much capped off a miserable day catching fish but a good day on the water!

I am guessing that my brakes were not set high enough and overran the lure and snapped. I thin I was using 10lb fireline. Bummer. Is this a common occurence or is it just me???

want to feel better?

Picture almost the same scenario... but with a $150 swimbait at the end of your line instead. Yup... that was me about two maybe three months ago. And yes, it was a sinking model.

how about this one:

made a long cast with my huddleston, in the process got major backlash. ok, no problem. i pick through it and worked it out. i started to reel the slack in and got my swimbait snagged on something. i sent down my lure retriever and get it hooked up on the bait. i began pulling and all of sudden "SNAP!"

nothing left but maybe 6ft of rope...

unfortunately, that's a part of fishing. if you don't use it, it won't catch fish.

Cal

That sounds like me at a casino. I don't go in anymore, I just give my money to the security guard working the door and turn around in leave.

Hmmm. I did not think of that option. Plus as murky as the waster was, I was not going to risk an encounter with the Lochness Monster, that and I did not get an exact location on where the lure landed. Next time, however...

not a $15o swimbait but...

I landed a fish and reached for my Gerber Fisherman Multi-Tool. I had my back to the water and I flicked my wrist to extend the plier and the Gerber flew out of my hand about 20-30 feet into the water  . The Water temp was in the low 40's so I wasn't going after that thing.

A couple of years ago one of my father's buddy threw his entire rod and reel into the the middle of the lake. He had just spent the entire drive to the lake telling my dad how great his brand new setup was and how he could not wait to use it. I was in another boat and when he told me what happened I asked what he did all he said is he might have a gotten a hernia trying not to laugh.

The real pain for this guy is that since then everytime we go hunting or fishing my dad tells the story in painful detail to the rest of the camp.

Well, kind of off the topic but, I just got my pixy in a couple of days ago and have been practicing pitching a bell weight in the office. Got pretty good but then I decided to swing an 8th ounce jig head with the hook cut off of it. The hard part now is generating enough momentum on the pendulum swing to get the lure moving the spool w/o really loosing the tension knob too much and getting birdsnests. Do you pitching gurus really loosen the knob and use your thumb?

Thanks

Jake

Just happened to me again today. I've spooled twice using Sufix Braid 30lb and those will be the last two times I will. I love their Sufix Elite, great mono but their braid has a tendency to snap. I'm going back to PowerPro or TufLineXP and not looking back.

How about the irony... I had that happen to me twice while using Power Pro and that is why I switched to Sufix Braid and never looked back . 8-)
