Single barbless hook - front or back?
Single barbless hook - front or back?
I'm about to replace the hooks on my small hardbaits, spoons and spinners with barbless - trout river regulations.
Would you go with a single hook on the front or back of your hardbaits, and we're talking small, ranging from 2 to 6 garms, #8 and #6 hooks.
Thanks

Here is a good video to reference:

It's covers different hooks and sizes for UL hardbaits. Also covers putting them on.
Also, check out finesse-fishing.com for your single hooks. Great prices and SHARP hooks.

Yes I know it all:)ccass wrote:Here is a good video to reference:

Got my replacement hooks from finesse fishing as well for my hardbaits, spoons and spinners.
On my local rivers I can only use artificial baits and a single barbless hook. So, my questions is, hook at the front or at the back?
I'm leaning towards front...I suppose. I have never fished a single hook jerkbait, so I have no idea where to place the hook for higher hookup ratios.

I've usually put the hook at the back for a single hook lure. Kinda depends on the bait I'd imagine.kunia13 wrote:Yes I know it all:)ccass wrote:Here is a good video to reference:

Put the hook on the back.

Put the hook in the back, but balance the belly eyelet with something. I use figure 8 crankbait clips:kunia13 wrote:ccass wrote:So, my questions is, hook at the front or at the back?

On the back.

I've put them all at the back, next up are spinners and spoons.
what a pain in the a$$ handling those super small rings and crazy sharp hooks....and I stabbed myself a few times.
I'm going to test the baits today in a tank and see if they need any extra weight up front.
I gotta say, those #8 hooks look rather strange on a 04 ul minnows.
Thanks for help.

Did you get the spoon hooks? The eye of the hook is 90° turned so the hook rides correctly on the spoon.kunia13 wrote:I've put them all at the back, next up are spinners and spoons.

Also, you'll be please with the #8 on the 04 UL Minnow.

I got the daiwa replacement hooks. They're thin - I can see them snapping - but they're quite sharp. I'll give them a good run and if anything get the Owners.
Thanks

Re: Single barbless hook - front or back?
I'd go with the back. I only fish one treble on the back of a lot of my small crankbaits & poppers.
If it's a jerbait, I'd experiment in a pool or something to see how the balance is effected & which placement is best. Could experiment with stick on weights(if you're an obsessed fisherman and it matters that much to ya).
