Jerkbait recommendation

Post by adam lancia » Tue Jan 20, 2015 11:38 pm

I haven't fished jerkbaits in the past but I would like to this coming season. That being said, I'm not looking to make a massive investment into them, I would rather buy a handful, see if I can get them to work for me and then go from there. So, if you had to reduced your jerkbait assortment down to 6, which weighs make the cut? Would you carry 6 of the same make, just in different sizes and colours, or would you carry a couple from different manufacturers? I'll be targeting mostly smallies in clear, natural Canadian lakes. Thanks in advance!

Id go vision 110, great jerkbaits and you wont lose much on resell if there not your thing.

Grab two 110 jrs, two regular 110's, and two 110+1's and your ready to go :big grin:

Agreed. I'm a HUGE 110 fan and own quite a few. Having said that, the DUO quality and performance is awesome and you'll have far less invested if you find that jerkbaits aren't your thing. DUO offers several sizes, too.

If I was limited to 6 what I would have is 2 X-Raps, one XR-10 and one XR-8 both in glass ghost, I'd have 2 Rattling Rogues in the Elite 8 series with 1 in clown pattern and one in Ayu. For the final 2 I will have a LC Pointer 100 in Aurora black and an RC STX 4.5" version in pro blue. I know some will be mad at the RC STX bait but this is about 6 baits that the OP doesn't want to get into a big investment and I honestly think the 110 is better for a more experienced jerkbait angler, so that is my list of 6 baits I'd have if I was limited but truth be told, each manufacturer brings something different to the table and I will go through a bunch of different baits before giving up on jerkbaits altogether.

Get some floaters and some that suspend. I have a variety of brands but Duo Realis and Yo Zuri treated me very good all of 2014.

Ugh, maybe when I get a big boy job, for now I'll have to settle for a handful of hard workers rather than a lot of casual part timers. 'cause let's face it, I can only fish one of them at a time... LOL

I'll play... Rapala X-rap 10 & Flat Rap 10. Lucky Craft Flashminnow 97, Slender Pointer 97, Pointer 78 and either silent Pointer 95 or Pointer 100. Rapalas = yellow perch, Lucky Crafts = ghost minnow or ghost sunfish

it's hard not to like the vision 110. They are fragile but deadly.

Thanks for all the help guys! I decided to pull the trigger on a few lures now rather than wait around. This is what I picked up:

2 Jackall SM 115 SP's, one each in Matte Pearl White and Aurora Black
1 Jackall SM 92 SP in Matte Pearl White
1 Lucky Craft Pointer 120 SP in Flake Male Gill
I Duo Realis 120 SP in Ghost Minnow
2 Rapala XR10's, 1 each in Perch and Clown
3 Rapala XR8's, 1 each in Silver Blue, Glass Ghost and Olive Green
1 Rapala XRS6 in Olive Green
1 Rapala XRS8 in Yellow Perch

I already had the Rapala's but I didn't get around to using them last season. Now if this weather would kindly make itself scarce, all would be good...
